No Worries guys, by the time this big name signee get's his USA Visa, ITC, conidtioning, etc it will be July
I wonder if the Front Office has a self-imposed punishment if they don't meet the self-imposed deadling of Feb. 1. I really hope there is a big signing. It sucks seeing other teams pull further ahead during the offseason.
No surprise, open competition for the starting GK role: http://blogs.denverpost.com/rapids/...-goalkeeper-spot-2015-open-competition/26592/
Well, I hope we do get another DP signing. Seems like they are looking for a goal scorer, which would be great. I agree with Hinchey that a great player at the right price that might not be as well known would probably be better for the team competitively, but a big-name signing could generate more excitement and revenue. I wonder who is on the radar? If I were the GM: How about using Arsenal connection to get Joel Campbell on loan? Or how about contacting Fulham to see if they would loan Bryan Ruiz? Both of these Costa Rican stars are seeing only time off the bench as substitutes in England and would surely be starters and quality signings if they came to Colorado. As a fan of the ticos, I would love to see them here. Or, if an older player with name recognition is wanted, how about Diego Forlan? Well, I guess we could all speculate and think about who we would like to see wearing the burgundy this season, but based on past history, we may all end up being disillusioned if we fantasize too much about this second DP.
BTW, the whole "we missed out on Cubo Torres" line? Here's what ESPN had to say about the signing when it happened (and they weren't the only ones saying this, it was just the easiest reference to find): http://www.espnfc.com/major-league-...-5-year-deal-with-mlswill-join-houston-dynamo So either the Rapids are lying and never had any intention of signing Torres at the price, or MLS is lying and never had any intention of putting him anywhere other than Houston, or some combination of the two. Regardless its pretty clear there was no real chance Torres would ever come to Colorado.
Or journalists reporting something are terrible at their job because they get facts and statements wrong all the time and never try to verify anything. ...so it's probably a combination of all 3.
Sarvas artictle from Galaxy, first part is about LAG I posted the Rapids piece. He heads to Denver on Sunday, and on-field preparation for the next season with the Rapids begins Monday. “It's a challenge for me,” Sarvas said. “It's everything that I'm used to, a new place to feel challenges, you know? I think Pablo [Mastroeni, Colorado's head coach] is the one to fight to have me over there. “We played together in 2013 [with the Galaxy], and we said a lot about soccer at that time, and our thoughts about soccer is almost the same. So I think I'm going to a place that my style and the way I am on the field is going to be very helpful.” http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-moment-new-challenge-beckons-colorado-rapids
on the daydreaming DP topic there is a player that I can think of that has both name recognition to have massive jersey sales AND the ability to score plenty of goals in MLS, while also pulling in the massive untapped Hispanic crowd that the Rapids FO is always making winky eyes at. And better yet, he might be cheaper than ever since he's not wanted by his parent club, and he's also not really playing for the club he is on-loan to and could use a serious change of scenery. The timing could not be better. Would we plump up the cash for Chicharitos signature? Under Kroenke I just can't see it in a million years but he would be so perfect for what this team always TALKS about and never does, moving the needle.
That could put the Rapids in the position of being the team that has the dp that sells out the stadium when we visit, I think our business model is more 'free rider' than that (let other teams bring those guys here). Put another way 'Hell no that won't cash flow' (even if it would). Also he does play at RM just doesn't typically start. On edit just a guess-timation but $20M transfer, $10M salary?
A) I said he's "not really playing" not "he doesn't play" and I'll stand by that, he's only clocked 341 minutes in ALL competitions. B) What $20 million transfer? Who'd pay that when Man U only paid 6m million pounds and he's clearly not needed by either club? Looks like a deal to be had by me. Someone wants him off the books somewhere. C) you are absolutely correct about the Rapids typical business model.
I would love it if the Rapids went after Chicharito. It would genuinely surprise me, and I'd believe they were finally putting their money where their mouth is. However, while I believe that Hinchey and Bravo did in fact get approval for splashing some cash, I doubt it would be THAT much cash. A Miguel Layun-level player perhaps (as the Denver Post story mentions), but Chicharto seems beyond our wildest dreams. I hope I'm wrong!
Not sure how you could say they didn't take a swing at him. I am not saying they did, but they may have said "we will pay up, but not if it means we don't get him until July". Frankly, I am good with them not bringing someone in that wouldn't be here for that long. Not sure the RFO/PM could survive a long losing streak while waiting for someone like Torres to show up..... In other words, they may have tried to get him, but without the long loan..... rod.
my only faint hope for a player like this is that they (FO & MLS) now see how much moola this type of big balls on the table kind of move brings in and if the MLS foots some of the bill as well since they'd be sharing in profits too, plus the attractiveness to a jersey sponsor. Also, just going from relying on a smattering of STH's, lots of discount tickets and free handout tickets only half filling the Dick, transforming to selling it out for face value every game. that's what this org never seems to get through to its brain dead ownership. I believe the revenues out there, if the right investments are made.
A) 341 minutes would be 17 matches as a 70th minute sub, or 11 and a half matches as a 60th minute sub -- that's playing just not starting. B) Do you understand what I meant by "guess-timation" and why would they want to lose money on a young and still promising player? So far as salary, agent's baby needs shoes (?) but anyway if those are too high of guesses would the Rapids even consider a quarter of that $5M transfer & $2.5M salary - I'll be a soccer pessimist and say no. C) Thanks. I'll be here all season.
A) that's not really playing time for what you call a "young and still promising player" at 26 years old, that's bench warming. B) if they had half a chance they should, they'd see all that money back plus more. But I'm a realist and think its not happening either. C) looking forwards to it. D) for the record I never said this would happen, I doubt Hernandez would even consider it, but its just the sort of big reach, barely freaking possible head turning dream move that should happen to electrify sports fans of all stripes and nationalities.
Just heard from the Rapids that they will be making a list of players in camp available but due to their short media relations staff it may take a bit before they get it out.
