<puts on cynics hat> I'm sure we will hear from Bravo and Hinchey that they had Axel as #1 on their draft board.
Agree with Quinn on this one. Klute was terrible last year, and seemed to get worse as the season progressed. No reason to believe he'd ever return to his 2013 form. That said, you'd think they could have negotiated a better deal for him than moving up a few spots in the draft. All in all I'm not too sad to see him go.
Official word from the Rapids: Thanks @chrisklute for your service to @ColoradoRapids. He moves to @ColumbusCrewSC for significant allocation money and #Superdraft switch— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) January 16, 2015
So, my twitter feed is blowing up with Rapids news... Garber coming to CO next week to make announcement with Josh Kronke Significant allocation money as part of Klute deal Dillon Powers obtained Itallian citizenship????
The first three things that popped into my head: 1) New DP 2) KSE is selling the team. 3) "Hey guys, we're moving the club to Sacramento. Toodles!"
From the MLS news report: "The Galaxy on Thursday traded midfielder Marcelo Sarvas to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the No. 3 MLS allocation ranking and an unspecified amount of allocation money." Does anyone thing this made sense for LA???? I think that LA gets Gerrard, we get Sarvas, and the Crew gets Klute and a #1. Sort of a three way allocation money and checker shuffle as the MLS buys the big foreign contracts and assigns them, but look how everyone passed on Altidore...LA needed the Rapids #3 Dispersal Draft spot. Klute for Sarvas?! Yes, I would take *that* deal. Now I would be one of the last to claim the Rapids FO has lost their imbecile status, but I did give them a "pass" recently for Brown-Powers-Klute. Maybe they have improved to moron??? R
That Italian passport will make Powers a lot more attractive to European teams. I have to wonder if he isn't gone as soon as he gets a decent offer. I wonder how you get an Italian passport when you've been living in the US for half a dozen years, unless he has an Italian grandparent or something. I'm thinking the announcement with Garber won't be earth shattering. Both the Rapids and MLS have track record of over hyping announcements.
Its been a long long process but I'm officially a dual citizen! #American #Italian 🇮🇹 pic.twitter.com/YxQ12BhVwj— Dillon Powers (@powerhour5) January 16, 2015 MLS has announced that Don Garber will join Colorado Rapids' Josh Kroenke in downtown Denver next Wed. for an "important announcement". #Hmm— Franco Panizo (@FrancoPanizo) January 16, 2015
My guess is that Stan is "selling" the team to Josh, thus the reason Josh is part of the announcement.
I want to believe it's #1, but wouldn't it have to be a pretty huge DP signing to get Garber to come out? I mean, he didn't come out for Torres...

That makes much more sense. Now, what we do with the allocation money.....who knows.... (unless it was for Sarvas, or to buy down the Argentines)
Not that I wouldn't expect anything less than disappointment from an announcement, that would be a rather strange thing for Garber to fly to Denver for since Josh has apparently already been on the MLS ownership committee since last year.
No Rapids news for 2 months and then in 2 days we get craziness. I wish that the Garber thing was KSE selling to someone else but it must have to do with Josh.
Panizo is saying that the mayor of Commerce is going to be there too and speculating it could be the All Star game.
My guess as well, and/or possibly something with a jersey sponsor? I wonder what the reasoning is for that though....any effects with the rest of the KSE properties in Denver? Anything with St Louis, the Rams, and/or LA (soccer or football)? Also, on a separate note, curious if the Rapids would introduce/address the Argentines, other players, or other business, at the same time?
Nah. Garber wouldn't come out here for a DP announcement. I think Jason has it right, the team is officially going to Josh. If Garber is joining him in the announcement, perhaps it means that Josh has indicated a bigger commitment to Rapids performance and roster/front office staffing. But I don't see Josh committing big $ to the Rapids far and above what his father has.
Maybe so, and maybe Josh would get to put his name all over new acquisitions. Maybe even a mysterious DP.
Yes but this would be an "official" new owner and I think the Commish there wouldn't be a surprise. Though with the mayor of Commerce City also being present the ASG seems to be a more likely announcement.
Those attending: Garber, Kroenke, Mastroeni, Lt Governor Joseph Garcia, Mayor of Commerce City Sean Ford, CEO of Visit Denver Richard Scharf— Franco Panizo (@FrancoPanizo) January 16, 2015
