I'm sad we're not getting Gehrig back. Solid second string player and seemed to be a team leader in the locker room. That said, we did lose two guys in this draft that did not necessarily have a future with the squad. Neither guy was in contract at the end of the year. It could have been a lot worse.
Grabavoy pisses me off more than any other loss, yes even Evans*, San Jose picks him and dumps him, they didn't trade him they dumped him, at the end of the season and RSL picks him up for free. I feel like if your player gets waived by an expansion team at the end of the season you should be able to pick them back up before they go in the draft, that's just stupid. *I didn't say he was the best player or more significant loss just that the circumstances that surround it anger me more than Evans.
We were only looking to keep one of the four. Essentially what it boils down to in the end is we got paid for Anor, the other three players weren't coming back no matter what (or at least it appeared as such). As long as we put the money to good use in the end, which obviously remains to be determined, it was a positive all around.
Yes if we sign no useful players and waste all of our allocation money it will be disappointing but being unhappy about these moves is silly. Unless you had irrational unyielding love for some of the players; which it seems some do.
There's the dispersal draft, expansion draft, waiver draft, reentry draft, super draft, supplemental draft...
Point taken. But with this organization, how the money is put to use is always a question. Anor is the one that bugs me the most. Williams at 100k is expensive for a backup, he wasn't 3Gs guy, and the deal prevented NYCFC from taking one of our guys. Solid move there. No issue with Jairo going, he just wasn't productive enough, though I did admire the work rate. He wasn't in our plans. And though Gehrig was better this year, I think we have better RB options on the team. But Anor was among our best in the air and had the best shot from distance (along with Meram) on the team. And he could play LB and was left-footed. I think that may be hard to replace. Again, not up in arms or anything, and I'd remind you that we'd have gotten Garber bucks for anyone taken in the expansion draft (though I realize we apparently got more in the trades). Still, six goals in MLS and two in USOC is a pretty decent sized loss, especially for a part-time LM/LB. I'll be stunned if the person in his place is as productive next year. EDIT: regarding Arreita, I think there are rules about picking up an option/level of qualifying offers in the waiver draft. Orlando City may have more freedom to negotiate by taking him in the expansion draft (though I could be wrong there).
Arrieta would've gone through the Re-Entry Draft where the first phase requires teams to pick up players at their full option amount declined by their previous teams.
Yes but it's two stages and no one was likely to pick him up in stage one; they probably could have gotten him and renegotiated in stage two.
Looking all over social media people have lost their minds; I'm sorry but did I forget a bunch of trophies we won during Gehrig's tenure?
When all the players feel a way about a player, it's not because of the trophies. It's because of the kind of person they are - and that can be just as important as talent in a locker room.
I agree on all of this. I do like the moves overall and it worked out great in the end with who we lost (I'm a fan of both Gehrig and Arietta but they had to go). I'm equally disappointed we lost Anor. As you say, he's one of the most versatile players we had and was pretty valuable. Guys who can play and be fairly effective in 3-4 different positions are usually the kind I want to keep in MLS.
Apparently we have the most fragile locker room in the league; surely we will come in dead last next year. I'm not saying people shouldn't be sad but some people are acting like this is unforgivable, worse than the 2010 cuts and we're doomed.

Depending on contracts and if Gregg thinks he can right the ship with them he or Andrew Jean-Baptiste wouldn't be bad backups.
