"I really hope our response is to hit the market and not bargain down Cummings." Why? "you are going to just get paltry production at a cheaper rate." Ching did not get better when we got him cheaper; we just paid less to get little. Cummings makes $264k/ 3 goals. I don't want Cummings back. We need to look outside. The whole point is this trio has been together 2 years and nothing's happening. Believing that if you reshuffle the cap and give it another year to gel, it will work, is Pollyanna. We need to get out of "capthink" and on to "find people who will score goals." You are not going to get more goals by negotiating down the people who couldn't score them before.
Follow Darrell Lovell@DarrellLovell Per release, Tony Cascio's option was picked up by Colorado. Dynamo had option to make move permanent but he's headed back Follow Darrell Lovell@DarrellLovell One more thing on the roster. One interesting player the club retained is Alex Lopez. He'll get another season to show what he can do. Tony heads back to Colorado and Alex gets one more year. It also looks like we wont get to keep Mr.Morgan
I like those moves. Taylor has value, and Cascio is damaged, and untested. Do we need anymore of the Rapids wounded? I have to admit that I am happy to see Lopez get another year. He looked good in league play.
Overall, the moves seem to make sense so far. I'd wait on a coach before making much more but thumbs up for now.
I was hoping we could have kept Mr. Morgan for obvious reasons. Is there anyway we can offer Alex Morgan a DP contract.
I do not understand why we'd nix Ownby. Did he have some sort of 3rd year salary bump in his option? I find it really hard to believe we'd find a guy as cheap and decent for that close to minimum. He played really well for Pittsburgh last year and didn't seem like anything but a team player.
I didn't see Ownby improving any more than he already had. He's USL/NASL level at best. Good riddance Driver and Cummings. And oh no, not Salazar! Kinda disappointed that we can't keep Casio, he was the only one of the group departing that had an upside despite injury problems.
I disagree with the Ownby move based entirely on salary. His salary bump was likely microscopic and there is no guarantee that you will draft or sign a better player next year. That being said, the kid had chances and didn't do more with them. I saw enough speed/hustle/crossing ability that I think he could have been possibly converted to RB. He was ok there in the preseason last year for the one game he played there. But it's not like I am going to lose any sleep over the move.
Exactly, I may question some moves but I am not losing sleep over any of these players! How can we lose sleep if we haven't seen our hand after all the shuffling and dealing is done? I honestly believe more guys will be leaving based on trades either to up position in the draft or get picked up in the expansion draft.
I feel bad for Anthony Arena. 70 minutes on the field in two years with the club?!?!? Does he suck THAT bad? that he couldn't break into this years defense? or was he a "Dom's Doghouse" guy? I imagine that any hopes he ever had of becoming a starter are pretty much shot after two seasons on the pine.
Sounds like MLS may expand 2015 playoffs to 12 teams with only top 2 in each conference getting byes into conference semis. So 6th in conference will qualify for playoffs.
ugh. Too many making it in that case. Looks like they've been trying to make the ~60% mark the number of teams making it in. I'd prefer closer to ~50%.
I hope they don't mess with it-I think they have actually have decent formula now. For once in the history of the league, they are doing it right.
I think they are anticipating "24" soon and setting up the playoffs to get your 50%. But Miami is floundering and Chivas folded so it doesn't look like their best case scenario. I think they expected to have 1-2 teams more right now with more on the way. I'm more concerned with the extent and riskiness of expansion (this drive to 24, 28, 30 a la NASL) than the playoffs per se.
http://www.sbisoccer.com/2014/12/sbi-2014-best.html Not necessarily fair to some players, such as Davis, but it does underline the outside perception of our talent level. Why I don't buy the "two players and we're fixed" sensibility.
My list basically was Davis and Bruin that could complain. Boniek most years but not this one. Garrido may have a future. Beasley might still surprise with rest. But it's not a long list and some of them are nearing retirement.
Hmmm, Chicharito is looking for a new club. Hello, Houston Dynamo? He just wants assurances he'll play full time. I think we could pretty much guarantee that. I see no problems. http://soccerly.com/article/soccerly/chicharito-already-looking-for-a-new-club
We may get him in 6 more years. Right now he is highly sought after, expensive, and still looking in Europe. It's almost impossible for an MLS team to get a Madrid player who has reached his prime. One could wish though!
What style do we intend to play? If the 442 hoofball continues unabated Chicharito just proved pretty ineffective last cycle at scoring in a cross heavy Mexican system. He is average height. Which was why they were "Mexico 0" so much of the Hex.
Haha...I see what you did there. Not for AEG it isn't. If only AEG had partial ownership of our club. If only.
If you had a striker of Chicharito's caliber, you play a system that is tailored to him scoring goals. 4-2-2-2 with inverted wingers etc. The sky is the limit!
