I am going to say it is Darren Mattocks. You keep thinking that guy is going to be good. Then he just shows how mediocre he is.
CJ Sapong. Darlington Nagbe. Michael Harrington. Shea Salinas. Patrick Nyarko. Danny Mwanga. Devon Sandoval. Bobby Convey.
sorry but you have it wrong- mattocks is not even mediocre- for all his supposed athleticism (ie jumping ability and speed), he has scored 1 goal with his head in 3 years and has scored about 3 times on breakaways- he has averaged 5 goals/season in MLS and in 2014, he didnt bag a goal in his last 15 appearances
Danny Mwanga is definitely NOT the most mediocre player in MLS... he plays in the NASL for the most mediocre team in the NASL:
You know, I like Nick. I don't see him as a poster boy for the Rapids problems so much as a player that should never be considered for the role of poster boy for the Rapids problems. It's screwy that a player who's positionally sound, generally tidy with the ball, and tireless with keeping the ball moving is an issue for a team that has nobody who can offer more and many who offer less. To be the most mediocre player in MLS seems pretty accurate for him, and it in fact puts a lot of player behind including most of the Rapids. Many of the Rapids get a pass that he doesn't because they can still cling to "potential", but we'll be lucky if any of them claw their way up to mediocre.
Isn't most mediocre kind of an oxymoron? Mediocre means moderate or ordinary quality. That basically means average which is like more than half the players in the league. Not exactly something you can really measure ... How do you measure a race to the middle? Would make more sense to measure best, worst, best value per dollar, worst value per dollar, most overrated, most underrated etc ...
Everything is relative, are we talking about most mediocre in the spectrum of all soccer players? If so, then you're asking who the worst player in the league is. The answer is probably some underdeveloped homegrown kid who is on $42k/year that you've never heard of. If you mean mediocre relative to the rest of the league, then you mean average, which could have a slew of candidates..though I don't think that's what you meant.
Gargan is actually a decent player. Just because he's moved around a lot doesn't make him bad. He's a very solid player who's unheralded. Labrocca isn't that good, but he's not the worst player in MLS with a secure roster spot. That title should be reserved for players like Henry or Leonardo who are truly just not MLS level players.
I do, but Gargan is not mediocre. He's a slightly above average player. Very underrated and doing a great job for LA this season.
I think that regardless of whoever wins this conversation, the honor should be named "The Alan Gordon Trophy". I love Alan Gordon. I'd nurse him with my own teet. But the guy is a lumbering hulk of questionable talent.
He's not even the worst Rapids player with a secure roster spot. Fatson Buddle has that honor...though calling him mediocre would be a flattering considering his overall talent and work rate. I will never know how that guy managed to get 100 career goals.
I would name somebody from the Quakes but 90% of our players aren't going to be around come March if ownership has any sense, so what would be the point?
He's got 44 career goals though, so he can't be that bad. There's a guy like that here in Austria called Stefan Maierhofer - everyone says he has no talent, and yet he has scored goals pretty much everywhere he's played, and made a good career for himself. It's seems like if you're not dribbling the ball into the net through 10 defenders like Messi, it doesn't matter how many goals you score!
