SSV members... Check your mail!! -------------------- Dear Soccer Silicon Valley member: First off, thanks very much for the outpouring of support we've seen in the 2005 Season Ticket Pledge Drive. Our totals are growing on a daily basis and, once again, you're all showing potential investors the great support that the Earthquakes have right here in the Bay Area. If you haven't pledged yet, there's still time -- send your name, address, phone number, and the number of tickets you'd like to pledge to TicketPledge@SoccerSiliconValley.com. (If you are an existing ticket holder, please let us know how many you have now. Also, please remember that we're trying to show prospective buyers how many more tickets they can expect to sell next year, so please consider doubling your current number.) We have some promising news to report. Tony Amanpour, the president and CEO of First Portfolio Mortgage Planners and Bankers in San Jose, is in the process of putting together a team of investors to buy the Quakes. Mr. Amanpour first contacted Soccer Silicon Valley at the rally on August 20 and we've been working with him since then to provide any information and assistance he has requested from us. He has already recruited several people to join him in the venture, which also aims to construct a new stadium for the team. Soccer Silicon Valley has aided Mr. Amanpour in establishing communication with Mayor Ron Gonzalez of San Jose, Mayor Patricia Mahan of Santa Clara, and Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco. The goal is to have the money in place to purchase the team by September 13 and we are optimistic that it can be achieved. It's not time to celebrate yet, though. Until a deal is completed to keep the Quakes in the Bay Area, SSV will be talking to other potential investors, sponsors, and corporations interested in buying naming rights for a new stadium, as well as carrying on with the rest of our duties. Having your friends sign up as members, whether they live in the Bay Area or not, is still important. Pledging to purchase 2005 Season Tickets is still important. Contacting your local representatives to urge their support for a new stadium is still important. Take heart in the fact that we are making progress but don't rest yet -- we still have a ways to go. Yours in soccer, Colin McCarthy President, Soccer Silicon Valley Colin@SoccerSiliconValley.com

Re: The Good Fight Makes Progress... I heard that too -- from a different source -- but that's damn good news. should be hitting the papers tomorrow morning. maybe it'll encourage a few others to join in. maybe it'll encouarge san jose/santa clara/whomever to step up to the plate. it's a bit of positive news, which is something that brought a HUGE smile to my face. even if it's small news, it's a big smile. it's something. speaking of which ... has any significant amount of money been raised by SSV and through the thread on here about fans investing? do we know where that stands? and this is another good opportunity to once again thank the SSV guys for all the amazing work they're doing on our behalf. you guys are amazing and it's nice to see something come of the work.
Re: Local Investor trying to buy the Quakes says Latest SSV Newsletter (9-2-04) if this goes through, PARTY AT MY HOUSE!!
Re: The Good Fight Makes Progress... I can hardly BELIEVE it!! Thank you SSV, thank you! You guys are truely incredible. I don't remember who said it... "Places people! Big smiles! Jazz hands!"
So does this mean if everything goes well with the investors, that they just need to figure out where the stadium will be built? snoopy happy dancin'!
Re: The Good Fight Makes Progress... you call those spirit fingers? These are spirit fingers, and these are gold!
Re: The Good Fight Makes Progress... Honestly, I think this stuff should be kept inside SSV. I just see it worsening the cause if we have people saying 'hallelujah!' when nothing has been done yet. Still speculation in my opinion, and its getting annoying how there is a race to post SSV e-mails on BS.
I don't think that SSV would publish such news in a mass email if they thought it would be any threat to what they are doing. They didn't say shhhhh, don't tell anybody. This is a momentary victory. Everyone realizes that there is still massive work to be done. So pull up your keyboard you party pooper, and appreciate the progress with us! And you be rest assured that I will continue walk the walk and talk the talk (um, pass out flyers aaaaand get people to sign up at SSV).
I dont trust SSV per se, so I still dont see a reason to celebrate. The chaces of the San Jose Earthquakes playing in 2005 are still the same as they were 3-4 days ago.
I agree with IBT. Guys, it is too early to celebrate. There's still a lot of work to be done. But I wholehearteldy believe, that SSV know what they are doing, and if they made this information public (or at least available to members) then the deal is solid enough to not be disrupted by this announcement. Watch out for Club America now. They may try to counteract, but as they are stupid (and we know that) they may just shot themselves in the foot, desperately trying to snatch our team. Edit: this comment was regarding the first IBT post. not the second one. Regarding trusting or not trusting SSV, if there's anyone at all to be trusted in this situation - this is SSV.
IBT, you are *such* a ray of sunshine! Come on now! Surely, Tony Amanpour, the president and CEO of First Portfolio Mortgage Planners and Bankers in San Jose is ok with SSV publishing his name, otherwise, they wouldn't have done it. Also, it is, September 2nd. That is to say, D-Day minus fifteen days, less as I write this. At this point, a name is good. It implies that someone is actually serious about doing this. The fact that it's a banker fronting for a group of investors is the scenario I was expecting. This is realistic my friend. NO, we are not out of the woods yet, but it looks like we may have found a guide. It's important that everyone stay focused and continue to badger their city council members and county supes. Something I alas, cannot do given that I don't live in California anymore. But this is hopeful news. I'm going to go pour myself a shot of very fine whiskey! LONG LIVE THE QUAKES!! - Mark
Funny, I was just thinking today, "I love this company, First Portfolio Mortgage Planners and Bankers." What a coincidence! http://www.firstportfolio.com/aboutus.asp (Actually I did meet with a guy there a few years ago to get a loan qualification. He was real cool, friendly and no B.S.) This is really exciting news. But as Colin McCarthy says, it's too early to celebrate. Hopefully Quakes supporters can really amp up the support now to push this thing through: accelerated ticket pledge rates and SSV signups, more intense lobbying of public officials, etc.
Re: The Good Fight Makes Progress... deleted the message this refers to. sorry, IBT ... got pissy there for a second.
Hey Jay Hipps, was this a clue? http://img48.exs.cx/img48/981/Housetourdogsinbackground.jpg (I'll be really embarressed if nobody gets this )
Um, no -- inadvertent inclusion of mating dogs in a photo that originally appeared in an online real estate listing is just funny.
Salud Hermano Mio! I am excited about this, but I understand that there's still work to be done. And thanks for the offer of your address Yalpstel, but as I've already gotten a letter published in the SJ Murky News that clearly states that I now live in Vancouver, Washington, I'm affraid I can't take you up on your offer. Oh, and I'm drinking Evan Williams, single barrel Kentuky Bourbon. It's nine and a half years old. Yum! Rock on friends! Okay...I thought that just maybe while researching First Portfolios someone started house hunting and found this pic... ehhh never mind.
