NYCFC is a joke. I'm so glad that MLS used Sac's expansion slot to give NYC two feeder teams that are going to suck. I can't wait to see the disaster that LAFC is going to be.
I perhaps think differently since I am color blind. I mean the generic adidas jersey template that we have seen on various teams at various times from various continents. Sure, it is just a "MCFC" jersey -- but it is also just a lot of other jerseys.
I am confused as to why they needed to have this. Everyone knew what the jersey and sponsor would be. The only part that surprised me was that the jersey had the addidas stripe
Cutting off a monstrous portion of your fanbase with xenophobic overtones here in the US.... ....versus an attempt to make the Europosers, a huuuuuuugggeeee market in Manhattan happy. I'd say NYFC is slightly better, but that ain't saying much. Not sure how you can build a loyal fanbase like this, especially without being able to pump huge amounts of money into players. At least RB forced that stadium through.
I know that we haven't seen the badge and kit for Atlanta yet. However, I'm willing to bet that ,even with the red and black colors that we are stuck with , Atlanta is going to blow the doors off any NYC club and LAFC !
do you mean have the press conference? I assume to continue to increase awareness to the team which I assume 90% or more of NYers have no idea will start playing next year.
Im not sure why people expected a different type jersey. Their logo already told you which way they were going. One other tidbit, Tim Pernetti said they have 11,000 season tickets so far. Pretty good. That number alone should make any comparisons to chivas usa moot. Dont think they ever had more then a 1000 season tickets ever.
So does this officially make NYC the little brother to............................................... Manchester?
But they sold all of those before revealing (today) that they would not have a unique identity. I guess it should have been assumed, but can you blame people for fostering hope?
I know the similarities are there with Chivas USA, but a few things feel different to me. 1. "City" is about as generic a brand as you can have and everyone calls the city New York City so it feels less forced than say Melbourne City does. "Chivas" is immediately associated with a single club and "USA" really made it feel disconnected from Los Angeles. 2. The kit itself is light blue so obviously again the Manchester City connection. Again, I would argue that plain light blue is far less distinctive than red and white stripes that Chivas had. That said, I hope they incorporate more orange into it like they did the crest to make it stand out a bit more. 3. Chivas felt from day one like it viewed MLS as a joke and fielded a second rate club in 2005 that got pummeled most weeks. Right now NYCFC have two of the biggest names in the league and have a good manager at the helm, we shall see how 2015 and on go though. 4. Chivas played in Galaxy's stadium and always felt like "the other club" playing in someone else's home. NYCFC...sort of has this issue playing in a baseball stadium to be fair. The big jump will be when they get their own SSS and can really establish an identity. Overall, I get the trepidation many have about NYCFC, but I think for it to be Chivas Mk. 2 will be unlikely and a series of worst case scenarios to occur.
MLS didn't use anybodies expansion slot on anybody but the team it was meant to go to. Sacramento and all will get theres when they get theres, don't believe the hype that theres a finite number.
to be fair the city name works in its own context, as this is the MLS team IN the CITY rather than that OTHER team, and they want to make that a point. that said, wouldn't it be cool if this kit was blue and orange? like navy blue with orange trim? that'd be unique in MLS, separate their look from every MLS team and their sister club. hopefully they have the frame of mind to do that with their away kit and switch sometime after they've realized this was a mistake.
I agree and stated that it didn't feel as much as a brand. I said this as well, and hope they do put orange on there somewhere. Secondary kit be great way to incorporate orange, but I fear it will be white with light blue.
It does turn people off. But until this moment they still had a chance to differentiate the team by making them look different at least. These uniforms make it much, much harder to argue that they won't be viewed as some farm team to Man City.
I think SKC's rebrand and inaugural jerseys made their fans all warm and fuzzy. Let's jump back to 1996 and ask yourself, if you were a fan of one of the "Original 10" franchises, how inspired you would be after seeing this...
This is a thread (beyond the sponsorship news) that is apparently primarily concerned with laundry. The league is doing very well as a business (in spite of that "look" from 1996). And MLS certainly continues to grow and succeed as more than just a laundry business. I can understand the concerns about how this is repeating "too much" of the "CUSA experiment." And if in 9-10 years time, MLS is having to buy-out and close up shop on NYCFC, then those concerns will be warranted. But so much of this (the specific concerns expressed here in this thread at least) is off-topic to the reality of what MLS is now, and how this NYCFC venture may turn out to have a history that will be significantly different from what CUSA was. Of course, so much hinges on a stadium solution, as is the case with every MLS team.
I thought I already hated NYCFC. This confirms that my feeling was true. ******** them, ******** ManCity, ******** the marketers, ******** Don Garber and ******** anyone who supports that "club". NYRB is as original as Sheffield ********ing United compared to this.
I can deal with the name because City is generic enough and sort of works with New York City. Disappointing that these shirts are practically the same as Man City. Despite that, this still isn't Chivas USA part 2 for me though. The ethnocentric player policy thing truly sets Chivas USA apart. Then there's the sharing venues with the Galaxy and owner not opening up the wallet. NYC hiring Reyna and Kreis, bringing in 2 pricy DPs, the commitment to being geographically distinct from RBNY, the ambitions to build a stadium. These are good things. Brand-wise, the direction this team is going is more Red Bull part 2, than Chivas USA part 2 for me. Still though, we in the US deserve better. But I kind of had a sinking feeling about this when those guys re-branded Melbourne Heart.
