haha. they can't even get their headline player there for the kit unveiling because he is off at the "parent", uh, i mean completely equal and in no way more important club ... i did think they would bring back villa for the unveiling ... i mean who cares about melb city ... they are the red-headed step child of the red-headed step child ... at least mls is #2!
The biggest problem was that the team was never a priority. They were never proactive about their situation. Then Vergara made it worse when he started taking control. NYCFC was MLS putting a team in the big market. The key will be what happens when the novelty and/or winning stops. How does the team manage that situation and be proactive.
oh definitely not ... it was a huge deal ... i just think it often gets more focus than the other major "feeder club" factor oftentimes. let's hope nycfc can, thru more competent and inclusive ownership, at least to some extent counterbalance their own "feeder club" factor.
Nobody's going to care about the jersey when everyone will be complaining about the conditions of the shared stadium and field with an MLB team for a few years. Looks more like a KC jersey than a ManCity jersey to me.
It's not Chivas USA like-for-like, but the team doesn't care about NYC. And it's tough enough to market MLS to such a diverse city that prefers European soccer and then doing things like this.
Honestly, this is the perfect setup for Euro first fans, they get a feeling of what it's like to be 99% of the European clubs, irrelevant in the big picture, and a slave to the clubs with huge $$$$$
is it just me or does this event just come of as entirely plastic and like some sort of marketing think tank collaborative nightmare ... like they just looked in the "cheezy marketing and pr" manual and just did every idea? this is truly embarrassing.
Enjoy the slash on the player numbers. Really brings me into and out of the world of NYCFC (or any MLS team) numbering fonts.
Certainly getting Lampard (immediately to start the 2015 MLS season) will invert the "feeder notion" a good bit, in terms of which direction the players are being fed/processed through the ManCity/NYCFC system.
well ... uh, at least they didn't bust out t-shirt cannons? looking for any silver lining here ... did this dufus just drop a Ton Loc reference in regards to the elementary school principal?
lolwhat it doesn't even look that much like the first Sporting-era jerseys it's a different hue of blue and doesn't have the indigo
gratingly annoying hype man - check hip alternasport 'athlete' - check blaring and painfully obvious NYC themed music - check corporate marketing executive blathering speech - check blantant use of cute kids as props - check giant jersey - check shirt toss - check raffle - check was this some sort of NBA event?
Yes he did. I'm sure part of the silence was that it flew over the heads of most in the audience. I'm sure the balance of said silence were oldheads thinking, "Oh no you didn't." Fool. Back to the topic at hand (Dre & Snoop reference). Outside of the NYC FC badge, there is nothing distinctive about this jersey. They could've put orange on the collar and stripes, Put a Navy blue stripe across the chest and keep the sponsor's text color white. Again, you're in one of the top cities/markets in the world and you trot out something that's bland and does little to reflect the city your team plays in. They better come up with something dope for the away jersey. Right now, this ain't cutting it.
i can't really judge the uniqueness of brand or the grass roots supporter base for atlanta yet as i haven't seen anything but i do know i like the orlando city mls branding and that the current branding (badge/kit) of sac rep and minn utd are pretty amazing and would be a welcome addition to mls as is, and all three have a very organic and built from the ground up and passionate fan base that mls would be lucky to have. this man city usa nonsense .... not so much.
I find it odd that people are up in arms about this. Did people really think that Man City was going to spend $100m on an expansion fee and possibly $200m more on a stadium some day, specifically to extend the Man City brand and then NOT have the uniform be the same? Wasn't this obvious from the get go?
