I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying watching with no dog in the fight. It's nice to be entertained without having that feeling in the pit of your stomach.
when i saw [R] in the title i thought i could look up the scores already! hard for rbny to play so quick after the thursday game. would have been worse of course if they had gone to ot. but i doubt they'll have the energies to take full advantage of the home leg, and the game in dc will be very tough. i'd have to guess dcu are pretty good favorites. by the way, do we have any sort of official betting lines on these playoffs?
Leg 1 matches (especially featuring some "tired" lower seeds who played at the midweek and playing at home again) certainly do have the potential to be some fairly drab affairs that do not settle anything. The second legs are usually set-up to be the "better match" -- but neither is really a self-contained event. Some Leg 1 matches do basically "settle" the series, but in most cases the second leg is usually the much more interesting and exciting event.
Ugh. I hate the time breaks between games. My wife is going to realize I'm dicking around between both games and is going to make me do shit around the house forcing me to miss the start of the second game. "Oh, hey, now that the game is over, you can install an entire floor for the rest of the weekend..." Thanks, Obama.
That's the second post I've seen from you complaining about your wife. Maybe you should get off an internet message board and take her on a date or something.
Are you married? A rite of passage of marriage is complaining about one's spouse over the course of the entire marriage.
Been married 12 years.. After we got married, she stopped going to games with me, and I asked her why she said "we're married I don't need to pretend I like soccer anymore".... and yet i'm still married, I stink.
In my opinion, without thinking too deeply about this, it seems like the lower seeded teams, Dallas, RSL, NYRB and Columbus, actually have the advantage now that we have the "away goals rule" and they are starting at home. This means that when they go on the road for the final game in the series, they will know exactly how many away goals the other teams have already scored and will have a better idea of what they need to do to win the series. Thoughts?
I don't know if the 3 & 4 seeds actually have an advantage (based solely on the order of games and when they play H/A) -- but I do think each of the 1 & 2 seeds are susceptible to being upset and knocked out before the conference finals. Having said that, each of the 1 & 2 seeds could easily go and knock in 2 or 3 goals in the first leg and make it very difficult for the 3 & 4 seeds to make any kind of "comeback" at home, or even with the benefit of the opportunity to score "tie-breaking" away goals in the second leg.
If one of the road teams gets that 1-0 lead in the first game, it's going to be boring as hell. I hate the away goals rule. Always have. How often have MLS playoff games gone to penalties that this was even an issue?
Not sure I agree with that conclusion. And I think the benefits of encouraging the away teams to go for a 1-0 lead in the first place kinda offset some of those concerns.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...pends-fc-dallas-playmaker-mauro-diaz-one-game As I predicted in the other thread--this was a huge missed call from Geiger, who only gave a yellow. This is not an "open to interpretation" call, it's in the books. Maybe it's why Geiger isn't reffing the semifinals.
that's an age-old debate. you have to weigh the advantage of sneaking through on an away goal, against the difficult environment of playing on the road. which means the equation isn't the same for every playoff match-up.
21 years to the same woman, and counting. I'm just grateful that she has put up with me for that long.
