How's not going to Europe working out for Besler. He's pretty much single handled ly proving Klinsmann right. James
I suspect that was his last game in an SKC shirt. He's our very last link to the Arrowhead days, but Gruenebaum was clearly better, and the club is grooming Jon Kempin for the long term. I expect "new keeper" is high on the shopping list.
Notes for playoff moving forward: NY and Columbus are the only 2 teams who cannot possibly host MLS Cup.
Actually, there's a chance! Though not in Harrison, it would be in the northwest of the state if it happens.
In SS vs. MLS Cup, I think they're equal. But that's what I like about the playoffs ... big players making big plays against the wall. SS measures consistent excellence. MLS Cup measures rising to the occasion.
And watching Henry pick the ball out of the net and punt it into the stands was a fantastic playoff moment. People always wonder how much DPs care. Here Henry is, maybe at the end of his career, and he's that into it.
What a game! I thought for sure, that the Red Bulls were going to lose after the misses by Cahill,Wright-Phillips,Alexander and McCarty.
It's worth noting that SKC's attacking players were all completely invisible, with the exception of the Feilhaber pass and Dwyer goal. I just re-watched the highlights, and I had forgotten that Zusi even played. Entirely irrelevant. EDIT: I feel like a lot of that has to fall on Vermes. Their style doesn't seem to fit their team very well.
Can't possibly? Let's just say extremely unlikely. After all, we've had USOC finals moved because of extreme weather and World Series games cancelled by earthquakes. But barring something of that nature, I get your point.
looks like Kronberg hesitated on BWP's 2nd goal because he screwed up that punch that led to McCarty's open goal chance. Never rated Kronberg, and this game showed why he's been a #2 for all these years.
problem for rbny was that henry had to work very hard second half and he has only two days rest to sunday afternoon. without henry rbny are out this morning. mc carty and cahill were useless, alexander had to be yanked from the game. awful awful job by the nyrb mid-field. just awful. skc didn't do much but pounced on that lazy turnover to score a goal. beautiful evening for soccer at rba, crowd certainly not large but ok. too bad they only have two days to sell the next game, which could have a good crowd otherwise.
and by the way, why did they assign a relatively inexperienced ref? he looked in over his head, players doing a little too much what they wanted.
that's a good point. of course it applies equally to the defender. that ball was in the air a long time and it's pretty inconceivable that swp was still so open. he made a nice header though, especially compared to the one he missed in the first half.
Ahem...not to say "told ya so" on Diaz, but....told ya so. More proof that Geiger shouldn't be reffing further in the playoffs (and it looks like he isn't)--that's a clear-cut red card in the rule book, not a judgment call.
