1 of 10 coaches to get the honor and one of four national team coaches. http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/news/y...r-fifa-ballon-d-or-2014-revealed-2462547.html
Oops meant this to be posted in NA, but I guess does not matter unless a mod or anyone feels different.
He is. However, from the World press' perspective..............................the USMNT overachieved at the World Cup by making out of a tough group and giving a good Belgium team all they could handle.
FIFA trolling soccer fans in the US...sad and forced attempt to generate headlines in the American sports media
Soon MLS will cease to exist and propa footy will be played. Revolution is near, close, kinda far, nevermind ask later.
Um...not. I don't care about the final score. We were lucky (call it "good" if you must, be I beg to differ) to be in that game at all. Howard's 15-16 saves; Belgiums 25+ chances...Julian Green gets his nearly shanked WC goal that can never be taken away from him. Yay, sort of ! Klinsmann among FIFA's best coaches? Far from it.
You're making the assumption that the world press expected anything other than that............................................. They expected us to finish last in the group and get pretty embarrased doing it. From their point of view (not the American point of view) we did amazingly well to get out of the group no matter how it happened. It's amazing, actually, how self-loathing a portion of Americans fans are. Not matter what our players, coaches, etc. achieve there are those that say................."yeah, but, but, but, they don't actually deserve that for reasons X, Y, and Z." I'm sure we can come up with other coaches that could be nominated, but they weren't. Klinsmann was. And that's some nice recognition for him. I don't know how coaches get nominated for these awards, but its not some pro-American organization doing it.
Huge congrats to Klinsmann for even making this list. The only other national team coaches on there made the semis at the WC. That's quite an achievement for our leader and pretty good nod to US Soccer from FIFA.
Self loathing? I think that is a bit much. I think myself and others are disappointed in how we played when we believe we could have played better if Klinsmann had made different decisions.
Let's look at it this way: Not too many people thought heading into the 2014 World Cup that the USA would get out of the group. Almost everyone thought it would be Portugal and maybe even Ghana ahead of us. So looking at it simplistically like that I can see why FIFA officials nominated him.
Honestly, not trolling at all if you go by what people OUTSIDE the US think. The non-American family that I have littered throughout the globe think that JK did a masterclass job with our team. That's just the fact. Foreign media looks at his tenure completely differently than how those here look at him.
Of course Klinsmann deserved the nomination - His amazing 6-3-4 record in 2014 put him amongst the game's elite. - He squeaked out of the group at the World Cup on goal differential, what American coach could have done that? - All those late goals conceded this year provided excitement for the fans... don't leave early! -Despite a handful of Portuguese starters being injured, Pepe suspended, and Ronaldo playing at 60%, and despite Ghana fighting amongst each other, Boateng and Muntari thrown off the team mid-tournament, and the players threatening to revolt if their federation didn't deliver $3 million by plane... he still managed to convince people that a draw against the former and a win against the latter was an incredible achievement. -He taught ignorant uncultured Americans how the game of soccer is coached at the highest levels: You yell at players during the game to run and work hard and attack. You hire motivational speakers to bend frying pans and tear phone books. You fight with your country's best player and the head of the domestic league.
You mean Pinto? I guess they view him as more of a fluke than Klinsmann. That would be pure speculation on my behalf but it may be true. The guy is not even at Cost Rica anymore so that may factor into it somehow too.
Fantastic that they honored OUR National Team coach!!! It's amazing when outside reality collides with the fever swamp of BigSoccer.
Because they don't know shit about our program or players, and they don't care to. But everybody loves the smilin' sunny miracle worker story. Throw journalists a sandwich and you've got 'em in your pocket.
Except Klinsmann has not accomplished much. We made the 2nd round and played like crap. Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure. But this is a beauty contest. Did Jose Mourinho actually win anything in 2013-2014 with Chelsea? For all we know Jurgen Klinsmann got 1% of the vote, but that happened to put him 10th on the ballot. This isn't something we should over-react to. Media love Klinsmann. Mostly because he's happy to talk to them, and has diarrhea of the mouth. You never know what juicy nonsense he's going to discuss.
Sweet, I slipped into an alternate reality where we made the semis. It will be even better if Crystal Pepsi was a big hit in this universe.
