great analysis DRB! I am always curious of how the juniors are progressing and now I know.... I was expecting that we'd be developing a few Busquets by now. smart and skilled who under these circumstances can turn and still have time to fake pass left and pass right...guess i too optimistic. dissappointed...

Well I am not sure specifically about DM, there are quite some options there to my knowledge. Even van de Beek could play there and Bazoer is performing at Young Ajax. I think this team will deliver quite some players to the first team. The norm was something like 3 every 2 years? Can't remember. This A1 team could deliver those 3 on it's own. Not only Nouri and van de Beek, but also Lartey, Cerni and Muric I can imagine. So that's a lot. Maybe Ayoub can come back to Ajax and be their Busquets. Who knows.

@DRB300 - Problem with Nouri is the same one that Serero has when he plays up front in the MF. Most of the time they receive the ball with their back to the attacking goal and the other players are too static and not creating space.
the conservative option preached by Frank is the back pass. Nouri however has far better skills than Serero. It's one of the reasons also that Moisander (more than Veltman) becomes so important to the attack as he faces the field in front of him. In past years we saw Alderwiereld and Vertonghen play important offensive roles. Serero played much better when he was in the deep lying role facing the goal. You don't see the Barca midfielders get themselves in this position and they are constantly moving into space. How often do you see Klaassen do this? Maybe once or twice a match.

Don't know what was wrong with the post. It appeared to be one long quote and then a minute later it looked OK. Sorry for the confusion.

I was doing some research and I could check that Riedewald and Bazoer have pretty much the same age, so my question is: Is Riedewald a more finished product than Bazoer?. I dont think he is a better player, but he did played against Barcelona, so why not to give Bazoer a chance?.
Maybe Frank dont think he is ready for it, let see if he can play some good matches for the Jong Ajax, he would like to see Bazoer playing regularly for Ajax despite the pressure he will have.
    Cheers!

Have not seen much of Bazoer and I think he has been hurt some this year. Riedewald has infectious enthusiasm for the game and of course he scored those two wonderful goals for the first team last season as a 17 year old. He has good physical presence and has played DM, LB, and central defense. Don't know which position he will end up at but I like his attitude. He said yesterday that he wants to play in all the CL matches this season. Good attitude.

Also I believe all Riedewald's appearances have come at LB. Bazoer plays CB/DM. FdB has never really been willing to play young players in central positions.

Well that is true, the DM position is very important and takes a lot of experience to know where to be good positioned, that is a job that Blind understand really good, unfortunately he doesnt have the speed or the atleticism to excel in the DM role, Lets wait for Bazoer.
Anyway the competition Bazoer - Riedewald could only make better players from both
    Cheers!

Correct and this week was his first as a DM. I thought it was interesting that he played there while Viergever stayed at LB. Boilesen is back in training but I'm not sure he will be ready for the weekend match.

Interesting that Riedewald starts in midfield ahead of Viergever and Zimiling, and is Serero injured? Also, is Boilesen captain in this game?

He needed to shake up the team a little, and was visibly upset over some players, namely Moisander & Kishna.

Must admit I am quite excited for this lineup.

Agreed, I like the lineup. But I'm thinking Siggy is probably being rested for the Barcelona game. Hopefully Milik gives Frankie reason to rethink that

I think Milik has shown more in the first twenty minutes of this game than any time I've seen Siggy this season

Game turned bad after the Ajax goal. Missed chances by Klaassen and el Ghazi. Terrible positioning on the GAE goal with Denswil, Riedewald, and Veltman nowhere to be found. Andersen is playing well but he might be the only one.

I believe Riedewald was nowhere to be found because he was the one who started the counterattack with a horrible give away at the other end. Though I have yet to see a replay of the goal that goes that far back, so I am not completely sure if that was him or someone else (not always easy to tell on lesser quality streams)
