I think it will. He will remain on the Exco, but we will need a new leader who isn't a fan and who can manage. I've defended Sunil and his hard, thankless work a lot, but time to go.
Well then there you go. They went public after attempts to handle behind closed doors didn't go anywhere. Maybe Wahl should put 2 and 2 together on that before tweeting any other opinions.
Well, look at it as an investment. MLS wants to be seen as 1st rate, and JK is disputing that idea, so that has the chance to chase investment dollars away.
I don't think he should have had a press conference just for the comments. Maybe a general presser this weekend where this question would come up and Don could tell Juergen to not win the World Cup.
? WTF do you think douchebag has been doing for three years to all of the folks who have built US soccer from scratch. Only a moron thinks LD wasn't a petty personnel decision now. Devils advocate says you have been ignoring a lot. It'a been personnel for a while amd now he is dealing with smarter, more powerful people, and Sunil is gonna pay for it long term.
Still don't think it's a good look for MLS to have its commissioner tearing into the NT coach like this. I know people are emotionally charged up but escalating this situation to this extent through the media just doesn't come off well. Jeff Carlisle @JeffreyCarlisle Garber: "I am just demanding that he refrain from making comments that are critical of our players and damaging to our league." And that kind of a demand looks petty and insecure.
I dunno. Sunil is pretty entrenched and has presumably had a pretty good relationship with the MLS people for a long time. I would bet on JK getting the ax before Sunil has to step down.
Yeah, we won't be laughing when BigSoccer shuts down for 3-4 days after the biggest crash in its history if that were to happen.
Klinsmann has been out of control with his criticisms of MLS recently, and hopefully this gets him to tone it down, but demanding Klinsmann to refrain from making critical comments about MLS players specifically, many of who are in the national team picture, is just crazy. It is part of Klinsmann's job after all. I know Gulati bows to the "cult of Klinsmann", but he could really do MLS and US Soccer a favor and give him some PR lessons.
Nope...he has been very classy and tactful in his career, there comes a time when you gotta tell a dik, he is a dik.
Agree with your second paragraph, but I don't agree it's Klinsmann's job to call out any of his players publicly. It just seems like the norm to us now.
Klinsmann should not call up the MLS players and call-up people who go to Europe. Bob called up anyone tying their boots up in Europe. Force the players to go abroad to get on and remain on the national team.
I think Garber's being a little over-the-top but his message is on point. JK has to realize that top European clubs aren't exactly handing out loads of quality playing time to US players at the moment, and not every European club is created equally as a development opportunity. If MLS has shortcomings in coaching and development then JK should join the work effort to fix those. Also, last I checked everyone from the English national side plays in Europe. Doesn't seem to be doing them much good.
Is it better to have MLS just sit back and take it? The national team coach is tearing apart the league that has produced the vast majority of national team players over the last 20 years. Garber saying nothing would come off as weak. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Plus, as others have noted, this seems to be a culmination of a breakdown in communications between USSF and MLS. This feels like it was necessary. The quote that you referenced above, I agree, that's a bit petty and insecure, but I don't think it takes away from the validity of everything else that he said.
I am one of the people who is very much middle of the road with JK. Didn't want him as the coach from the get-go (read: from 2006 when 98% of these boards was drooling over him), but I'm not a fire him guy either, even after the issues that have been raised about his management style. That being said, I AM OVER THE MOON that Garber rocked his world today. Enough with the MLS bashing, Eurocentrism already. If I want that nonsense, I can go to the freaking yanks abroad forum and get my fill all day, every day. We can't have a coach of our national team who makes it his personal pet project to take a dump all over the domestic league. This isn't Albania he is coaching. He is coaching one of the wealthiest countries, per capita, on the planet. And oh yeah, it is the 3rd most populous country on the planet as well. Put those 2 together, and there is MASSIVE room for growth. He needs to start supporting the growth of MLS instead of the mass exodus of any player with a pulse. Mind you, I have no problem with players choosing to go for this reason or that, but Klinsmann has gone further and further over the top with his statements of late ..... and it's certainly becoming less tolerable each and every day. Bravo Herr Garber. Bravo.
I just think Klinsmann just needs to figure out how to articulate his criticism in ways that are more constructive rather than ways that can be seen as disparaging. Managers/coaches talk about their player's performances publicly all the time, but most of them do it more tactfully rather than Jurgen's semi-diatribes (Clint hasn't done "shit" comes to mind).
