Davie and Werder could clear the remaining open points and he signed a contract until 2018: http://www.werder.de/de/profis/news/51268.php :)
I had my doubts that he would stay considering the very good offers from foreign clubs (e.g. Benfica),
so now I hope that he can continue his positive development.

Very happy to see the commitment by Selke. Really shows the initiatives new management are making with youth come together.

Some good quotes from Davie about his decision to commit with Werder and what he continues to work on:

"Other clubs have offered with utopian amounts. But for me it was never an issue to leave Werder. I know what I have here. The people, the fans that I've come to know in a short time, I feel quite at home. We received concrete offers. But blocked out everything from the beginning. Because I knew that I want to stay absolutely. This is a labor of love for me. Werder is still a top address in Germany. And here I have the opportunity to develop myself as much as possible."

"With the first few minutes in the pros, I'm relatively happy, but not completely. I still need to do more to be dangerous and develop more opportunities. There is still some work to do. The first Bundesliga goal is very important to me and would be one of the greatest moments of my life. "

Klaus-Dieter Fischer gave a very interesting interview. He said that Werder must think about making depts in order to avoid a relegation into the 2. BL.

„Unsere Strategie war es immer, es aus eigenem Bestand zu leisten. Aber wir müssen uns jetzt damit beschäftigen: Was bedeutet eigentlich der Abstieg? Nach meinen Einschätzungen bedeutet das Umsatzeinbußen im zweistelligen Millionen-Bereich. Und was bedeutet dagegen eine kurzfristige, nicht zu umfangreiche Verschuldung, um in unser wichtigstes Gut – das Team – zu investieren?“

This statement is interesting because it stands in conflict with Werders strategy in the last decade.

    ---

Well, I am happy to hear that the management finally starts thinking about such strategical decisions. But at the same time I am once more scared how the club is run. At the end of this season the funds saved in the sucessfull CL years are expected to be wasted, so one waits close to this point and finally realizes that something is wrong. That is no strategic management, that is amateur BS.

It sadly seems like Werder lost the track in the BL, in terms of talent development and also economically.

Some movement in the management and advisory board. Infront (sportmarketing company) extended its contract with Werder until 2029 and paid Werder a contract signing bonus of 9 million €. The money should be invested into the stadium operating company (Werder and the city of Bremen hold shares) and in the team.
Günter Netzer (former BL and Real Madrid) player praised Werder as a good partner, but also praised Marco Bode as a good option for the head of advisory board. Together with Fischers statement about the strategy of the future club this praise set Willi Lemke under pressure, who stated a day later that he will not candidate for the next advisory board election in 2016. Lemke also praised Lemke and kicker speculates that changes could happen before 2016, maybe even in the next months.

Word is Werder made an offer to free agent/out-of-contract USA International striker Juan Agudelo but he rejected it in favor orf a trial at Wolverhampton. Supposedly, he is only interested in playing in England. He's a very promising talent so i'm disappointed to hear this as we could certainly use the help.

That is sad, but if he does not want it is probably better this way.

The change in the advisory board happens faster than expected:

Yea I just thought that was a pretty glaring indication of the state of affairs at the Weserstadion, if our positioning in the league table wasn't indication enough. However, all signs point towards money being made available for transfers in January. I'm reading that the Bryan Ruiz rumor hasn't died down at all and that a large portion of the sponsorship deal could go towards bringing him in. This is good news as he is way too good to be wallowing in the Championship, and we certainly could use a striker of his caliber to compliment Selke and Di Santo. However, I think the biggest issues lie in our nonexistent defense. We've done well in front of goal but are simply allowing too many (16 goals against, worst in the league).

We have to sort out the defense before its too late. We currently sit dead last in the table but its still very early so we have time. If we are really going to splurge on players, I think we need 1-2 defenders and maybe a good defensive midfielder. However, even with all the talk of Werder spending money to right this ship, I still have a hard time believing that our miserly board will be willing to spend what it actually takes to compete in this league. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

We have an interesting dilemma in the defense. Lukimya is very strong in the air both attacking and defending but is slow and easily beaten in behind with the high block that we are now playing. Caldirola is quite nimble for a CB but very weak in the air and a definite liability on set pieces. Galvez looks like a CB playing DM; I prefer Kroos there.

So I think we have plenty of CB talent, but not a good all-rounder like Proedl. Although keep in mind that it took Proedl quite some time to become a good all-rounder. In the beginning he was a bit like Lukimya is now, a pure aerial threat. I don't know that bringing in more CB talent is necessarily the solution. If we want to keep playing the high block, which is entertaining, maybe we need to play Caldirola instead of Lukimya and just bite the bullet on set pieces.

The defense worries me most, too. Dutt tries to let the team play less destructive than last season, but results let one doubt that the team is ready for this. Individual mistakes hurt us especially the back four and the new signings with the exception of Bartels had no good start at Werder.

Yes, Galvez said himself that he prefers playing as CB. It seems the CDM position really does not suit him, but what worries me when fielding him as CB is his low pace. And I fear other teams will use this at counters. Caldirola is somehow in a performance crisis. This is quite sad because I liked how he performed last season.

What would you guys like to see in terms of player signings/what do you think we will actually do? It sounds like Werder knows that they need to spend money in order to remain in the top flight, but again, I'm skeptical that we will actually spend the money.

Ruiz hasn't played well since his first year at Fulham although I didn't see him at PSV. Fulham tried to dump him this transfer window and couldn't suck anybody in. He's not Bundesliga quality in my opinion.

Kicker reports that the positive run (currently leading the BL goalgetter list) of Franco Di Santo created an interest by many clubs. Di Santos contract ends in summer 2016 and he could be a buying prospect by many clubs next summer.

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...to-steht-bei-vielen-klubs-auf-dem-zettel.html

In the article Rouven Schröder is quoted: "It is nice to have a player in our squad who brought himself into the focus positively ... we will try to continue working with him." And Viktor Skripnik said he would like a contract extension, but he also admitted: "Many things must fit (to let him stay). South Americans like to play for top clubs."

Signs are pointing towards Elia making an exit. Skripnik gave him a new opportunity to regain his place in the squad on Saturday vs Stuttgart but his play was extremely unconvincing. Honestly, the lack of decision making logic he showed was unbelievable. Times he was on the counter and had players around him to work with and his just attempts some senseless hollywood style dribble stumbling towards nowhere. The story will always be the same with him. Glimpses of good raw talent and skill but no brain to make that translate into productive output. We played much better as a team when he was subbed off. Time to find a buyer and no doubt just move on from this scrub. I would rather build with Bartels, Hajrovic and Aycicek as attacking options who can actually work efficiently to make cohesive build up plays.

Tough call on Obraniak. He's back in the rotation but we need to see him play from the opening frame to form a closer judgement. Whether we seem him start in the upcoming matches depends on Skripnik. Honestly I'm not exactly sure if he's a player in the plans moving forward. He's also 30 now, so I'd like to see one of the younger talents be promoted.

Werder will play a friendly against Danish club, Odense BK on Friday (Nov 14) during this intl break. Skripnik says this match will not only help the team stay in rhythm but also give an opportunity to test players from the U23 team.

He especially has encouraging words for Maximilian Eggestein, "Talent is talent. You cannot buy". The 17 y/o will feature in the starting lineup. Marcel Hilssner and Luke Fröde have also been called up to take part.

From the interviews he gave I think Obraniaks big goal is the EC2016 with Poland. And to reach that goal he needs a starting position at the club. So I expect him to either manage to reach it or see a perspective until winter or forces a transfer (with his player manager).

1-0 win for Werder in the test match vs. Odense. Werder started well: Aycicek passed to Hilßner, Hilßner brought the ball in front of the goal, Petersen converted from small distance. But after the good start the match quality decreased and it stayed 1-0. Well, Skripnik rotated quite much and gave many bench and reserve players a chance:

Werder: Strebinger - Busch (60. Gebre Selassie), Hüsing (60. Garcia), Lukimya (60. Galvez), Caldirola - Fröde (60. Kroos), Eggestein (60. Fritz), Aycicek (60. Bartels), Obraniak - Petersen (60. Di Santo), Hilßner (60. Elia).

Bargfrede is nearing his return. He's looked good in training and good chance he'll play this weekend vs Paderborn. Prödl could also be back in time. Janek Sternberg and Maxi Eggestein from the U23 called up to take part in practice.
