Gatekeeper: WHAT.. is your name? -- Columbus Crew Gatekeeper: WHAT.. is your quest? -- A new football crest. Gatekeeper: WHAT.. is your favorite pattern? -- Stripes!.... NO! Checks...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaggghhhhhh That said: Nice job. Congrats!
Yawn...wait what year is it? How long have I been passed out? Has Wallace Jackson with Kathmandu Club been called up by Bruce yet?
Okay I'll bite. In the stripes, where the black stripes come off the original crest and head to the top of the inner circle it seems that the first black stripe takes off at a different angle. I am sure it is just an optical illusion but...
It's awful. Somebody swallowed a bucket of yellow paint and the flag of Maryland and threw up. It is a little more up to date. Instead of retro gay porn, the ethos is Cosby sweaters.
I'm not sure if he edited it, or if you meant to quote the post below his, or something else, but this is the current RSL crest: The one they abandoned spelled out "ReAL," and it sucked.
It wasn't very long ago that the Union possessed the only truly circular crest in the league, now there are three.
I feel like an old-timer even if I'm not by some of y'all's standards. I think it's really amazing how much human beings are attracted to symmetry. People love the circular crests. People were very upset when the Timbers crest broke the circle with the axe. People really disliked that the MLS logo had a line that extended out of the shield shape. It's psychologically fascinating to me how people react to such things. In terms of this one I like the crest but perhaps I would have left out the lines and just had the 96 and the checkerboard in the inner circle. A little too busy for me.
And three team crests with "96" now on them, although I think the new Crew logo/crest does the best job of highlighting that year/number.
It's cool but I was always hoping they'd truly embrace Ohio's history... Maybe if Cleveland enters MLS.
Looks like they've updated the image, to put CD CUSA back in there, if only temporarily to close out 2014.
We're loving our new crest, but your complaint seems to be the one hangup we have as well. My thought was that the inner circle should have had the stripes and the 96 and the checkerboard pattern should have filled up the outer loop as the background with the wording in the foreground. It does look a bit clunky with the two ideas seemingly fighting for the same space. But overall, it's pretty good. My impression is that the natives are loving it, but the neutrals are actually loving it MORE.
