Today's the day. We find out what our club will look like, brand-wise going forward. Let's hope it goes better than MLS Next did.
I had high hopes before, but they've been dashed a bit by the recent crew insider piece (part 3 specifically). I'm concerned they might have tried to stuff too much in there, with the talk about wanting to represent pillars of crewness (or some such) and every detail having meaning. The best logos are simple. Unless there's some great story and sybolic significance I'm unaware of behind the nike swoosh, or the script coca-cola, or the Block O, etc., etc.
I seem to be the only one who liked both the MLS logo and San Jose's new one. I guess my standards for logos aren't very high, so hopefully this doesn't disappoint.
Just got off the phone with my Adidas rep. They will not be able to produce a piñata in the shape of the new logo before the next home match so that keyboard commandos can beat it unmercifully
Every time I read or hear someone in the organization reference "brand pillars" I get very, very annoyed.
How to represent the most pivotal of brand pillars on a badge? What's the visual representation of constantly coming up with no more than a #handshakedeal during the transfer window?
The three stars on the new MLS logo still boggle my mind. Who would have ever guessed that MLS even had 3 pillars for them to stand for? (For anyone who forgot, the 3 stars are for: club, country, and community.)
Many European teams have fairly complicated crests, and some of them look very good. On the other hand, some simple logos are just too stark. I think it can be done right either way.
Well, you're luck: in the organization's pre-explanation pieces they made sure to call the new thing a badge as opposed to a crest...as in, it's a badge of honor.
Someone just commented the following on SBI... "junker says: October 8, 2014 at 1:42 PM I have seen the logo and its very impressive – lets just say it is a dynamic change to the US’s worst logo and has a large influence in the city’s german roots…." I'm intrigued to see end result. Don't care for current crest/badge/logo and I suspect I will like new one better even if it isn't magically awesome.
The US's worst logo? Nah, gotta be NE Revolution. That is the worst in the league, though I can't say I'm familiar with all the crests of NASL and USL clubs. EDIT: See all the USL crests here and the NASL ones here. I'd say the Harrisburg, Pittsburg and Tulsa logos in USL are pretty terrible. I mean, Tulsa didn't even try.
I knew it. Remember the new futsol court that Frankie helped to open a month ago. Crew sponsored it. They knew they had a new look. Checkers are classic soccer. I like it so far.
And the *pirate* wearing the old Glidden jersey it appears... US's worst logo? That's a bit dramatic. There are plenty worse out there...
