http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/08/29/crew-set-to-add-s-c-to-name-this-fall/ SC to be in the name, logo to be round, skyline and number 96
This isn't exactly new info. The article - dated from August - just rehashes what we talked about in here a month ago. The SC thing is irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. Kinda the same thing as 'Inc.," "LLC" or "GmbH." That is, as long as we still are called the Crew, which we will be by all reports. Precourt's been very clear on the point that we'll remain the Crew and keep our color scheme. We'll be the Columbus Crew, not Columbus SC.
I like 96. I don't have a problem with SC or it being round. The skyline could be okay if it is done well but for some reason it sounds like a red herring. Skyline seems like a nebulous term that is very open to interpretation. We will see soon I guess.
Per Jardy - The Don is coming for unveil and also seeing mention on twitter of band New Politics (not sure if that is true) also.
Nice of Don to come here, since he was seemingly too busy to do so when Precourt bought the club. Still, assuming this is what it's been advertised to be, it'll be mostly a dog and pony show. I look forward to the club getting more aggressive and thoughtful in its marketing. I'm certainly curious what our new FO guy, Loughnane, has been up to, since he pretty much disappeared shortly after being announced as the new hire. But this kinda shit takes time. We're still stuck with that miserable TV contract; still need to sign an impact player or two to improve the product the club is trying to sell; still have effing huge questions to answer about the club's long-term stadium and training facility solution. A new crest and integrated marketing plan can't really affect those issues directly (in a good way, that is).
I disagree. Refreshing your branding can have a direct effect in energizing your base. It drives sales of merchandise which in turn adds to revenue. All very important in affording these new players and facilities of which you speak. Putting a better product on the field helps as well, but sometimes the dog and pony show of new branding has an immediate impact (if done right - big if). It doesn't last forever and you have to use that positive momentum to launch yourself forward, but it can have a very positive impact.
New Crew logo teaser out on facebook. I can't attach it right now but it is a big yellow circle that says #newcrew 10/08/14. So my guess is the new logo is going to be round.
I'll speculate that we'll see something closer to Bayern. We've seen a lot of use with the checkers pattern recently; both in promos and then also in the flags topping the East and West stands. Now, how the skyline or anything else incorporates into that, I don't know.
I have a question about the old logo -- Did the three hard hat guys ever get names, even if only informally among Crew fans? Like Manny, Moe and Jack or something, but not the Pep Boys?
No nicknames, in fact someone here was recently lamenting that none were ever created. I would of like to of seen the models brought to the stadium for a living logo or at least edit a few photos to show the logo with real people. I suppose if they made those fellas publicly known then their behavior would reflect on the team.
But how long have the flags been along the upper stands? In fact, the supporters had a checkerboard flag as far back as 99.
I'm excited for you guys. I do enjoy the Crew name and the yellow. Nothing wrong with them, and they are remnants of 1996. Definitely the badge could use a lift, so that's good. Just hope it's not a lateral move i.e. San Jose.
