Agree. Unfortunately sports can bring out the worst in people. I also think that in a lot of cases it isn't that they are necessarily racist, they just use social media as a pulpit for hate. In this case they hate all things Liverpool and will say some obviously awful things.
Week 4- Winners and Losers Wish I could keep up with this regularly but have not done this since Week One so here we go. Winners 1. Arsenal- it is a game they should have won but Villa have been playing well and giving teams fits with their bunkering style to date and physical countering attack which could create an issue or two. Fortunately a virus plagued the Villa squad and they decided it would be fun to watch Arsenal score three quick goals. Arsenal have struggled in the early stages this season and this could have been a banana skin but they won while gaining two points on us and Citeh after our game while watching their other rivals for the CL places- Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and Utd- all lose. It terms of result and points gained on rivals they had a very good weekend. 2. West Brom- Leicester stole the headlines but WBA won at Spurs and played the hosts off the park for long periods of the game and were well worth the victory. They were denied a clear pen and forced Lloris into some tidy saves while not giving Foster very little to do. I believe the odds for a win for them were quite high and someone may have cleaned up at the bookies with that result. 3. Leicester City- down 3-1 and charged back to a 5-3 win (albeit with a lot of help from the officials). Still have to admire their spirit and their fans would have snatched your arm off for 8 points considering their opening five fixtures- Everton (H), Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H), Stoke (A), Utd (H) . 4. West Ham- they started their week well by coming back twice on Hull to land a point in a game where they were second best for long stages and then pulled off an impressive win vs Liverpool. Fat Sam is doing well with what he has and generally has them knocking the ball around, although I do wonder how quickly the kick and rush style will return when Carroll recovers from injury. 5. Southampton- they are second in the League which I suspect is not where almost every predicted they would be at this stage and they picked up another impressive win at Swansea- who have started very well. Koeman is getting a lot of out his squad in the early stages and while I suspect it will not last several of their additions are bedding in quite nicely. Losers 1. United- yes Clattenberg was awful but some of the defending was shocking and they completely imploded. We are used to seeing United being the team to storm back and win but seeing the shoe on the other foot was a indictment of where the current team sits. Plenty of skill going forward but at the back they are a castle built on shifting sands. 2. Liverpool- the alleged Title challengers have only won two of their first three games with poor results against West Ham and Villa with some generally lackluster showings besides their win over Spurs. I predicted that they will find this season more challenging and I suspect that trend will continue. 3. Spurs- see West Brom above. If they are serious about CL football that is a game they should win. 4. Tim Howard- a poor decision and miscommunication led to him conceding a penner and then just awful keeping conceded the second as Everton lost at home to Palace. 5. The refs- Clattenberg stole the show, but there was a clear pen missed for WBA and some inconsistent officiating in the Swansea-Soton game. This does not include the curious case of Mike Dean.
Actually the club is very high on Hector Bellerin, the 19 year old RB we poached from Barca 3 years ago. He just broke Henry and Walcott's team sprint record. A bit raw defending but excellent going forward. Arteta the fellow Catalan had taken him under his wing and said he can own the RB position "for years". I'd rather we take this route than buy a garbage spare defender who is a liability with a bad contract we can't unload (Squillachi, Silvestre, Cygan, etc). He was the reason Jenkinson was loaned away. Chambers I think will wind up at CB.
That's good, but it's a lot of pressure to put on a yoof lad. Probably better off playing Chambers there and mixing in Bellerin instead of thrusting him and hoping. You lot have a legitimate chance to challenge for a title or at least put a lot of distance from 4th here well those other sides find their way. I just think your squad makeup right now is a little odd with hardly any defensive cover. Any chance Gibbs can play on that side?
They have the new 3rd place trophy to fight for. Plus they won a trophy last year. They'll have to wait another decade.
crazy game for Blackman, Omerou and Bamford (late sub) they finished 2-2 and then lost 14-13 on penners some up and down moments from Jamal in goal and I thought despite making two good interceptions he should have done significantly better on the first goal which he strangely tried to swipe at with his foot only to see it fly by Omerou was a little up and down but generally looked comfortable and not completely out of his skin Bamford came on late- won a penner and scored it. Then missed his penner in ET and made his second penner Blackman and Omerou made their penners
we have Torres talk in this thread, Y&R and Former Players may have to find somewhere for him but quite frankly I am pleased that have that problem
