But you just gotta' watch the VB. After all, these 24 teams playing 103 (!) games [I'm still trying to figure out the format; they are currently in the third group stage] are going for that pot of gold totaling a whopping $500K:

Prize Money for the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Poland 2014 is as follows:
    1st Place: USD 200’000
    2nd Place: USD 125’000
    3rd Place: USD 75’000

    Prize Money for individual awards:
    MVP: USD 30’000
    7 other positions: USD 10’000

Man, I hope my guy can win one of the "7 other position" prizes...

So after being all over the 3 group stages of the volleyball WC like flies on shit, beIN isn"t showing the semis and final live? Is that right? :ROFLMAO:

WOW.....EVERY Serie A match is available this weekend on beIN! Finally, some respect for the league. 3 on the TV channels and 7 streaming. Don't see many delayed broadcasts but that is more due to the fact that another round of Serie A begins on Tuesday.

It is a really good schedule for Bein Connect. I must have seen the schedule before Bein updated it earlier. Would be nice more on TV but at least Bein Connect is an option.

Since 95% of my TV viewing is football and I watch a lot of football, I can appreciate that folks who watch other so-called niche sports also appreciate an outlet for their favorite sports. In this regard I try not to be the equivalent of the fool who is upset because soccer--deemed to fall outside the realm of "real" sports by said fool--has taken a slot away from some college football team that is destined for a bowl game with a .500 record. So, I get that volleyball, rugby, international basketball, motocross, etc. also has fans. But the thing that irks me is a point I have made many times but with a slight twist: BeIN has clearly paid a lot more money for football rights than any of those other sports. This says something about market demand (more or less). Then mix in the fact that football is said to be the second most popular sport for young people in the US after NFL and it would seem that BeIN would schedule football first and the other sports next. They should be scheduling live football matches and delayed broadcasts on other sports. In the same way that most rationale football fans understand that Fox is not going to air a big college basketball game so a football match can be shown live, I would assume that a volleyball fan would understand why a volleyball game is delayed. To that end, my sense is that rugby has had a lot of outlets in the US: FSC showed some, Setanta showed some, FS+ shows a lot, DTV has 2-3 rugby channels, NBSCN and NBC Universal show rugby. I don't think rugby has grown much in popularity, although I could be wrong about that. Football has grown in popularity. Again, this says to me that live rugby should not be prioritized over live football.

Second, and somewhat linked to the above, if BeIN connect is a viable option for BeIn then show the volleyball or motocross race, rugby, etc. on BeIN connect and show the football match on TV.

Finally, since I don't watch any of these other sports, I have no idea what BeIN is doing with these broadcasts. But why not show rugby as a 60in30 or 90in30 (however long rugby lasts) and show complete football games. Again, how much has BeIN paid for the rights to other sports vs. football? What is the popularity of these other sports that they don't appear to be chopped down yet football is repeatedly edited by BeIn.

I have to repeat that none of this is an attack on those other sports. I appreciate that people are willing to look beyond the NFL and NBA for sporting entertainment options and that fans of other niche sports want to follow those sports. I just don't see the logic in many of BeIN's choices about their programming schedules.

Somewhat unrelated, but I noticed on my guide that NFL Network has done something similar and has a 30 minute game rewind of every game throughout the week. However, I think it's definitely possible to show every play in a football game in 20 or even fewer minutes.

I heard years ago that is how they show Americn football in Europe. They edit out all the huddles and stoppages and commercials and cut it down to almost an hour.

danielmak: I appreciate some of your comments on how niche sports (in the USA) need some kind of outlet, but I balked when your comments turned to "my game is A-number-1 and all others can go to tape-delay [edited-for-time, even] or web/applet streams."

I do like 6-v-6 volleyball. (I dispise the beach game.) I don't like when they time-compress VB, since you can know when the time-slot is nearing the end, and you can tell, "OK, this is not going to game #4 or game #5," so you can guess who wins at the end.

Rugby is the new-ish hip club sport on campus, and the 7-v-7 version has made the Olympics, so you can see why some outlets want to get their hands on it (and why organizers like USA-Rugby wants it on air, where they would press to get full matches shown in reasonable time-slots). [Remember the old "Rugby 101: our balls are bigger than yours" ads from the old Fox Sports World days?] It is also more of a free-flowing game (like soccer) instead of the stop-every-play of American football.

Mediacom has been doing this with Iowa football games for at least 15 years and it's a nice way to re-watch a game. I find starting a football game an hour or an hour and a half after the start time on the DVR and avoiding contact with the outside world via the internet during that time is a better experience and better use of my time.

As far as the NFL goes, Sky has been doing live NFL for a number of years and it draws about 50-150,000 viewers live (the high end being playoff games). If you adjust for population, that's pretty darn close to to EPL ratings for NBCSN telecasts. I imagine the edited games are probably for Monday consumption as the afternoon games in the NFL would start at 9:30 pm UK time. The US prime time games are obviously red-eye time in the UK. Usually the NFL games between the better teams are in that 4 ET slot or prime time. You wouldn't have to scurry all over London to find a pub with the NFL on TV since there is no soccer on Sunday nights. College football in the UK is extremely obscure and you wont find it anywhere unless you have a local alumni chapter in the UK.

Does Dish have bein en espanol in hd? I currently have comcast, but dish sounds tempting. I have appletv and just stream to my tv beinsports in hd from comcast online platform, but comcast doesn't have FS2 which is getting some nice CL games. Also, do they have fox deportes in HD?

    Thanks, sorry for the OT.

Yeah, NFL coverage in the UK isn't all that different to NFL coverage here. Sky Sports offers a 1pm ET and 4pm ET kickoff (with additional live games and RedZone available digitally with the red button). Sky has the Thursday game too. All live w/ US commentary and UK studio breaks.

Channel 4 (the original UK NFL network) got back in to the game with live Sunday Night Football. Monday Night Football does not have a live distributor anymore.

I think that back in the day (10 or so years ago, while I was living over there) Channel 5 used to can some games and show them quickly in the middle of the night on a Tuesday or Wednesday with a bunch of other American sports offerings.

No to both BEIN español and Fox Deportes in HD unfortunately.
But you can stream all BEIN channels to your appletv online in HD.

And BEIN Sports English is available in HD on TV.

    Thanks for the response
Is that through Dish's online service or through beinconnect? And for another OT question now that we are here, does Dish have access to FoxSportsgo?

    Thanks

I should hope so since Fox is a major sports carrier. I would love to see Libertadores and Sudamericana matches in HD.

Dishanywhere.com has the english feed available online. For the Spanish feed and BEIN Connect you still have to log into BEIN's website. And you can also see the English feed on BEIN's website too of course.

As for Fox Sports go , there is no access at this time but I hear that may change soon.

Alright, on my never ending quest to find the best Android phone browser to view BEIN Sports Connect...
... I have come to the conclusion that the best ones are these two Chinese browsers: UC Browser HD, and Baidu Browser.

I don't know why they work the best, but they do. Something to do with the HTML5 video players and technical stuff way over my head.

If anyone else has any other suggestions please let me know. :D

I was speaking about Fox - that is where the conversation veered off to. Supposedly, FoxSports 1/2 will have Copa Libertadores coverage come 2015. This comes from someone who knows the business but is not in it anymore. Knowing this person, there may be something to it but it could just as easily be bad info. I'm looking hard but not finding any proof.....

I don't follow FoxSports primetime programming at all. I would assume there is amble college sports during primetime Tuesday-Thursday. Then again, maybe not. Perhaps somebody can chime in and enlighten us.

Darn it. A little bit of as Let down Socceraction.
Hope the rumors are true though. I think if they promoted it well they could get decent ratings. Especially if they focus on the Popular teams from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia.
