Signing a player isn't going to sell tickets. Hiring folks who know how to sell tickets is going to sell tickets.

I was pretty pleased, overall, with the NASL numbers this last weekend. Smallest crowd was >3,000 Largest crowd was > 10,000
Signing big time players won't sell more tickets?? WRONG!!!! If the Cosmos happen to sign 1 or 2 more very well known international players next spring, of course attendance will go up. And yes a dedicated sales force trying to sell season tickets helps build for long term growth as well
At this level, that would have to be one helluva signing. We're talking Kaka levels here. Nothing below a massive international talent is going to help a D-II team -- or even an MLS team -- move tickets. Not gonna happen. That's not how things work at this level.
I think you are largely right, but I have recently heard some ManCityNY fans say they like them because they are bringing talented guys from Europe - even though, and I swear this is true - they couldn't name who was being brought in. I'm not saying none of the ManCityNY fans said this, but I heard it from more than one - like, you know, its "common knowledge" / "everyone knows it" type of responses.
Yes, I was assuming it was the college football season starting up that was diverting interest, but now that you mention it, there does seem to be a bit less promotion. Maybe now with Traffic fully focused on the RailHawks, there might be more effort?
I think they're talking about what Jason Kreis said in an interview last year. He said Man City told him they would allow him to take 4 to 6 players on loan from the club. Currently one Man City's brightest players is training with Columbus as a favor to NYCFC. Naturally as a fan of the club one must get excited about that, also I wouldn't be surprised if one or two Cosmos players get poached by NYCFC. The kid training with Columbus looks like one hell of a player to boot. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...elechi-iheanacho-training-columbus-crew-not-t
There are very few players who can actually move the needle by themselves. I wonder what the biggest DII signing ever has been, though, so that's a good starting point for an off topic discussion. When Steve Ralston signed with AC St. Louis, that raised some eyebrows. But Ralston was at the end of the line and only played two games for them (123 minutes) and just one more in his pro career. Senna, obviously, had quite the pedigree when the Cosmos signed him. That hasn't moved the needle long-term. Good question, though.
And yet....it doesn't actually happen. Man, you operate on some other plane of reality, don't you? Like, one that's not data-driven at all. If it were true, don't you think the Cosmos - with the most resources of anyone in the league - would have done that? Are they going out to get guys in the transfer window? I mean, it can't be because the vaunted brand can't attract "very well known international players," can it? "One or two very well known international players" aren't going to come play on Hofstra's turf on Long Island for the chance to compete against Minnesota United FC on ESPN3.
It all boils down to competence. You need an FO that has patience, vision, and common sense. You need staff that doesn't have their thumbs up their asses or being a collection of interns. You also need coaches and support staff that have the same qualities as the FO. It takes a village to have a good team whether it is soccer, or baseball, or American football. There is no silver bullet, or one single position, that makes a team successful.
The only minor league club I support is the New York Cosmos, but they are not affiliated with anyone.
FC Edmonton reported on Thursday that tickets were 97% sold for their game on Sunday. Hopefully this is different then their home opener (which they sold out) in that those fans who bought tickets actually show up.
Credit the Railhawks coach for motivating his team during halftime, he didn't make any substitutions and showed confidence in his team that or Colin must have threatened to kill them if they lost lol..... Cosmos pressed and did not give up, I really thought we were going to tie! What an entertaining game!

Fireworks and promotion did well to counter the effects of an NC State football game. Very happy with the crowd.
