No mention of the boot stomp to Ray's chest right at the half whistle? If anybody is going to get DisCo'd it's going to be that guy.
This game had a tie written over it big time. Surprised so many of you went for a win. Just couple things not discussed yet: the pass-back in the first half that was not called. Bad bad mistake by the ref. In the Inquirer Nanducci writes the goalie made the save of the game on Edu's shot late in the game. Clearly Nanducci has no clue about soccer. Edu shot straight at the goalie instead of passing the ball into either corner of the goal. Bad bad mistake by Edu The free kicks in front of goal are terrible. The ones who take them should maybe come and get some lessons from my son who is able to score on these over and over again... We had many corners but were unable to capitalize on any of them, often due to Letoux's poor ones. Very frustrating to watch and something the team needs to address big time.
I dont think that was a pass back at all. im pretty sure it was a missed clearance off of his shin or something and went backwards to the GK
I think the ref was treating it as a deflection of sorts. If he wasn't sure I guess the right answer is not to call it. It was weird either way.
Guys taking corners and free kicks in the first half were people that don't normal because of team selection (fab and Fred)
I think that was the right call, as well. IMO it was a clear deflection (and almost an own goal), and not a pass-back. I agree that the right call there is a no call.
http://live.mlssoccer.com/mlsmdl/match/2014-09-13-PHI-v-NY/1632 around 2 min in the video is the "pass back" it clearly deflects off of his knee..so not a pass back
The Red Bull defender sort of chested it down and it fell directly to his foot and he pushed it on to Robles. It all happened in one motion. My guess is that he probably expected Robles to boot it immediately but Robles picked it up instead. Lot of howls in the stadium after the no call. Calling it might have been a little harsh, but it wouldn't have been nearly as harsh as the Chivas back pass last year.
youre quite wrong. he kicked it with his right foot and it deflected off his left leg back towards the GK.
I actually attend the games and don't have the benefit of slow mo and replay. But thank you for your generous clarification.
The Y Axis on this one just updated itself as we've officially played the best 10 games in our history. Current PPG is 1.9, and a win against Houston would take us to 2.1. And this one is only through the last game @ Toronto...
Went to the game yesterday, great enviroment and it was really cool getting to see Henry and Cahill play. Thought that the Union played well, Cruz' motor is ridiculous, I just wish he had a little more skill/polish to his game. Was really impressed with Robles, the guy is really a terrific keeper and it was funny watching him flip out on their striker for not hustling right before Robles took down the Union player, can't remember who it was. I really think that the Union could have taken this game if Casey would have been playing, that young striker #30 was effing horrible all g-damn game. When he wasn't hustling he had balls bouncing off of his feet instead of absorbing and distributing. Was shocked in the last 10 minutes to see Edu playing CB and Okugo moved up the field into a CM position. Gaddis was the MOTM in my opinion, the guy simply played his a$$ off yesterday. Lastly, can someone explain to me what the hell the grounds crew was doing during the hour delay when they were all out on the field pushing water around the field?
That young striker had a hand in both of the Union's goals. Let's not forget that 4/5 of the Union's starting MF was either on the bench or playing CB for half of this match. Also Okugo was playing CM all game, and Edu was at CB. Gaddis worked his tail off as usual, but his distribution and passing leaves a lot to be desired. He works so hard to win the ball back, only to pass it straight to the other team far too often. Cruz always gives his all, I as well as others, just wish he would calm down some. He gets himself in great spots, but too often rushes his crosses, passes, and shots. Oh and that reckless challenge.......
I don't know... Ribero had a hand in both goals, but he just hasn't looked poised in front of goal yet. In the Toronto game he was a step behind two possible sitters. He'll grow into a good player someday, but he's a clear second team guy until he learns to anticipate better. Hopefully the Union show some patience with him.
Once he has the ball at his feet he's pretty good. He looked like he never had time to really settle down yesterday. I love the idea of him playing at CAM and feeding Casey and Le Toux. He'd occupy a lot of defenders.
