Wow....this means that beIN actually do read the posts addressed to them. I went on their facebook page after the volleyball knocked the scheduled Serie A and La Liga matches, and told them how logical it would be to add that match, since it neatly replaced the removed Serie A match with a start time (8:15 m) that fit nicely previous to the volleyball. And earlier that day I posted in this topic, be it in a more ranting, frustrated way: "I usually opt for Premier League, but there is no early match this Sunday, so I was planning to watch Serie A instead....Of course, there is a Championship match which is available with an 8:15 am kickoff, Nottingham Forest v. Derby County, which would fit their "revised" schedule (volleyball airs at 10:30 am)" Maybe there is hope after all.... However, I do have a question for Cantona...how do you know that the volleyball was cntractually obligated o be shown live? The US plays Australia on Saturday afternoon and it is only on Connect...
If thats true its frightening how someone who is not affiliated with tv in any way being able to make a program schedule better than an actual program director!!! Whoever does that job should be beaten!
I use poached lightly ... Acquired lets say.. Announcing is NOT getting better for BeIN.. Ross Dyer (the only good announcer For BeIN) has rumoured to have left Bein for ESPN. The rest of their announcing talent is horrible. BeIN USA really needs to step up and get someone international talent. I'm still hoping Terry Baddoo gets things right over there. Cantona---
They already get international talent for free - the English-language announcers supplied by the various leagues for their international feeds. I will concede that the English La Liga announcers are a bit on the boring, un-dynamic side (except for that one guy who went apeshit during the Cordoba-Las Palmas promotion playoff back in June) but at least they're not offensive to the ears like, say, Gino Fuentes. But the English Serie A announcers are great - lively, knowledgeable and enthusiastic without making the match about them and should always be used. BeIN could save the $50/match or whatever they're paying the Fuenteses and Mellatuses of the world and improve their overall match presentation.
Isn't Monaco playing Lyon Friday? Why is beIN only showing this on connect and not on either of its channels?
they seem to think people who watch the the channel would be more into watching Rugby than watching soccer.
As much as I would prefer to watch that game on the main channel and despite the fact I will watch it on connect at work, I don't imagine Monaco or Lyon as anything close to a reasonable draw viewer wise. I would assume that since they just bought rugby rights that they would want to see if it draws any better than the usual Friday afternoon Ligue 1 game.
They will go with rugby on one channel. Fine. But I still don't get it how Almeria-Cordoba can be a better draw than Lyon-Monaco. Casual fans probably don't care about either of the games but I am sure the rest of soccer fans would prefer the french game out of these two.
Next weeks Ligue 1 Friday match also gets the boot for rugby. What a joke. My question is why not at least delayed for later today or tonight. I have always said that if you have all these rights then why not max out on the stuff you show. 24 hours in a day and there is no reason why we're not seeing 7-8 footy matches, 1-2 rugby matches, 2 airings of express extra and that leaves you with 3 hours for spanish dick pill informercials. And that should be every day. But no we'll get 1 match a day and deal with it.
Playing devil's advocate here -- beIN wants to steer you to Connect. Or steer you toward bugging your provider if they don't have an agreement for Connect. Streaming > replays for 21st C. media companies. Dick pill infomercials > replays, for that matter. Replays are only for a very vocal, very small minority. Sorry. As for rugby over Ligue 1... puzzler in my mind too. But I'm assuming that the (English) programming guy wants to go more Anglo. They've been better about The Championship of late too. They may have some analytics that justify that, who knows since those numbers aren't public. There isn't a huge market for rugby here, even though it's a fairly strong niche sport. Also not a big market for Ligue 1 either, IMHO.
Im talking delayed not replays. There is no interest in that? If youre watching bein youre a diehard. I can see espn not showing a delayed college fb game but i can spend the day spoiler free from a ligue1 match. Also the rugby today is being replayed so 2 of the same rugby match and 0 football. Stupid if you ask me.
Gotta ask: Where is the Swiss Super League coverage this weekend? Grasshoppers v Basel this Saturday at 11:45am. Looks like the streaming service is at capacity at that time. If you can't show this matchup you might as well not show the league at all..... SA www.soccertvblog.com
Yes, it would be delayed one on of their products (beIN Sports) but replayed from another one of their products (Connect). Replayed or delayed, still a big reduction in audience. Agreed.
It's not great. But again I was just advocating their side of it. They view their own product as valuable.
As others have noted, it makes sense to maximize broadcasts across their platforms. And if they are testing rugby, fine. But there are a couple things to consider: (1) show the games on delay instead of more 90in30s. (2) Rugby has been on multiple channels in the US for some time. Is there an audience? Is that audience growing? And is that audience larger than a Ligue 1 audience. As many folks on this board know, soccer is the fastest growing spectator sport among young men in the US after the NFL. Folks who pay attention know that this growth is primarily going to be attached to Old Firm (the Spanish version), some combination of top 4-6 of EPL, Bayern, and PSG (maybe some top Serie A sides). In short, glory hunting, which is fine. So Lyon-Monaco is not likely going to be a top draw, but is it a better draw than rugby, which has not had a shortage of broadcast options in the US? I would assume that Lyon-Monaco would do slightly better, but I could be wrong. Either way, the smart football fan knows where to go to find an HD alternative and that means BeIN will lose those viewers today.
I don't know a ton about rugby, but is Premiership rugby a bigger draw than Australian rugby?? And what is broadcast history of rugby in the U.S? I assume Setanta, Fox Soccer Plus and ESPN3 and possibly FoxSportsWorld back in the day. If thats case, would Bein Sport now be the channel in the most homes to have ever had Premiership rugby rights?
That is strange. Never realized they had a little on concurrent matches to show streaming wise, but I guess that makes sense. Only one RPL game streaming this weekend as well. There is a shit ton of content on Bein Connect though this weekend, everything included.
Just because they think it is good, makes it so. I have to say ESPN3 is pretty good. The NBC Sports online games are pretty good as well. Now I just need a laptop with an HDMI port. I wonder if they make an adaptor to make a lap top with no HDMI port HDMI cable ready?
As I wrote in other threads, look into buying a Roku3 since you have espn3 access. Wireless connection to your home network. Just a short HDMI cable as you can put the unit behind your TV. Not only great picture quality but it also keeps your laptop free to do whatever you wish while espn3 is streaming on your TV (as well as the ESPN regular channels if your TV provider is approved). SA
