Why does it have to be a mexican owner? It's great to have a minority owner in any sport, but it's also great to have a qualified owner who will do right by his team and city always, no matter what his or her ethnicity is.

I'd hope for something better than Los Angeles FC or FC Los Angeles, that sounds about as original as John Smith.

Here's a slightly old article from earlier this spring, but nonetheless an interesting one for Chivas fans chomping at the bit for a new team name with kits to boot.

Los Angeles Aztecs, bring back some history just like Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps did.

Didn't the mod promise to ban people who suggest this name? That promise should be kept.

If you think the name brings back any history or has any cache in Los Angles then you don't know what you're talking about. And if you knew the NASL owned the name, you wouldn't suggest it either.

Aztecs is a terrible name. People should stop suggesting it. Now.

Wolves. Name predated the NASL, and owner Jack Kent Cooke wasn't fond of the merged league anyhow. Los Angeles Wolves, Wolves FC of Los Angeles or whatever. Cooke earlier wanted to name the team Zorros to piss off Dan Reeves who owned the NPSL LA Toros.

These names have no REAL history beyond wikipedia articles. Almost no one that would be going to these games have ever heard of that team unless they googled it. I know we are desperate for history, but you can't just name yourself after an old team and think you will be relevant within a community. Chivas USA played more seasons and in front of more fans than the Wolves or Aztecs and they have been considered a universal failure. Its not like PNW teams that kept those brand names alive over the years. If you want history then you need to build it not just steal it from a dead team.

So I was thinking LA should name the team something to do with the State Animal. The bear.

They should name the team "LA Osa Mayor" (the Great Bear). LA could serve double duty. they could tie in the California state animal, and the constellation "The Great Bear" (Ursa Major in Latin) could also be associated with the team.

Point well taken (Considering the Cosmos, for instance). Just think "LA Wolves" sounds good. Just an opinion, not an historical argument.

Its also so generic it could never be accused of being some kind of ethnic pandering as well.

LA wolves sounds okay. Only thing is it has no real significance in Southern California. The only wolves here come in their scrawny distant cousins the coyotes. Although it makes about as much sense as LALakers.
