Times football writer Rory Smith on BBC Radio 5 live: "Although Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley would walk into most Premier League sides, because they are associated with the failure of Manchester United, clubs are reluctant to go for them. I'll be fascinated to know from Arsenal fans if they would be happy with Welbeck."
I dunno...SAF loves his strikers too. Plus maybe Arsene is calling in his favour for RVP... Regardless, Welbeck for 16m (to a rival in a year we desperately need to get back into top 4) and Kagawa for 6.5m is just madness
Well you can see how Welbeck makes sense for Arsenal he scores at a higher rate than Giroud, is faster than Giroud and can operate as a left sided forward and can press like a maniac The stupidest part is that the gunners could now field a lightening fast front 4 with Walcott & Ozil & Sanchez - but have no decent deep lying passer
First time I've heard Rene Meulensteen talk. Holy Christ, he has the most cockney accent I've ever heard on a Dutchman.
I presume the board is demanding some line on the spreadsheet gets hit therefore everything not bolted down has to go out the window
Di Maria: "It will be great to have a striker like Falcao. I will try to adapt to English football quick.” [sport central via @MUtdBert]
Van Gaal has told him already that he won't start much or whatever. And he is adamant to move permanently to Arsenal now.
It is just such a terrible deal from our perspective. I am almost convinced we are going to the RM/Barca model of a squad of 18/20 players topped up by u21 players. And filling the 18/20 squad with in-prime stars.
So the Falcao deal. Potentially permanent? I am going to be honest, I am not happy with our selection of strikers. All are very good imo, but they lack the variety of our best groups of strikers.
I'm not happy with the ages of our strikers. There's no semblance of a long-term vision and the two leading #9s are both crocks. It's very much turning into Zidanes y Pavones.
Before all the players and agents knew we didn't sell to EPL rivals. If we have sold Welbs to Arsenal, then players and agents will think they can move to City, Chelsea etc. Plus those clubs know they can cause unrest by offering more. Long term very stupid.
Yet Valencia and Young are still around. They'll look silly in training everyday against the likes of Falcao Di Maria Blind Herrera etc...
