It's a discussion board, so I'm guessing it's the place for discussion, which is probably why you partook in the discussion, too. Otherwise, I'm not sure what anyone sees in Donovan this year to justify your last sentence. Still, like I said previously, very happy that Landon got his recognition and moment for people to give him his proper due. Whether or not US Soccer and Klinsmann backed into it, matters little to me, as long as it's happening.
Of course not. But he's probably a lot wiser about handing out contract extensions. Or allowing this situation (will USSF do the right thing or not vis a vis a de facto testimonial to its greatest player ever even though the current, just-extended coach clearly doesn't care for him) to become a bit of a controversy. He got it part right, at least...
What's the over/under on the number of non-LD threads in this sub-forum that eventually devolve into a discussion about the Decision? I'll take the over at 25.
That is speculation. That we did not make it to the quarters without him is a fact. Wish I could make it out for this game - will have to settle for seeing him off vs. SJ (& hopefully vs Sounders!).
Reading is fundamental. Never said that Bedoya played in MLS. Anyway, good luck to Donovan in his final season and USMNT game. For me, it's over and time to move on. Just hope that there was something unique in the Donovan situation and is not indicative of JK's coaching. And I hope that JK focuses on trying to find some more creative ability for the attacking midfield positions.
I love Donovan. But I think I'd have a heck of a lot more respect for him if he had left this bridge burned. Those currently associated with US soccer don't deserve his time.
I logged on today wanting to add my sentiments to a Donovan love fest but found instead a Klinsmann hate fest. Very sad.
No, no one is saying that. We're just aware that Donovan is a much, much better player than some of the slugs who made it onto the team.
Agree completely -- glad that Landon is getting a sendoff -- I wish many if not most of our stalwarts could get one; Bocanegra certainly deserved consideration as a captain of the team for so long. That said -- glad that the game is close to where I live and I plan on attending. Glad to see LD get some recognition for his contributions. I have more respect for people that can disagree with each other and still respect each other than those who carry grudges and issues well past their 'sell by' date. I hope that Klinsmann and LD can do the same. I don't expect any hugs or lovefest -- never would, but a handshake would be appropriate. Interesting that the Galaxy agreed to this if Landon has a game two days later. There must be some agreement on playing time, but I hope that Landon has a chance to do something special his last time in a USMNT jersey.
It will be packed. I, and 6 other brothers and close buddies, will be on section 228. See y'all there.
I'm not happy with JK at all, and think he did a lousy job with the USMNT at the WC. I also believe that he has a real deep-seated dislike of Donovan that he let cloud his judgement when it came to WC roster selection. However... I can see how he could justify not tweeting about any of LDs achievements after the WC roster was announced. JK knew that Donovan was no longer a USMNT player, and that (as long as he was coach) would never be again. It's not is job to track and promote players that are not in the player pool. Now that Donovan has been called back in for a farewell match, it is JK's job to acknowledge it via twitter and give it a positive spin.
Except he was still in the player pool; JK had said the day after the cuts that LD would be first one called in; JK had said he would still be called upon in the future, especially with an important Gold Cup fixture.
