Jermaine Jones, or Brek Shea on loan...Jermaine, Dax and Cahill are all central players yeah but Jermaine is going to be one of the top 10 players in the league

Jones seems like he's going to Chicago or nowhere, at least they've been the only team rumored to be in serious talks with him.

Honestly with the transfer period closing in a few days, I think its safe to assume that we won't be signing anyone.

I don't see it. Jones has become criminally overrated after the world cup after a few good performances for the USMNT. Was always a "destroyer" but he's not that gifted technically(I know about his goal vs Portugal...)He's not a bad player and his physical style of play will certainly translate to the MLS but he's going to be 33 in November and I see him having injury problems. He also wants to get something like $3-4mil per season which seems a bit too much for him.. I don't want to waste a DP on a destroyer when we have a very good one in Daxman at a much better price.

Brek Shea on loan would be a great idea though..

Jones is much more than a destroyer..Klinsmann had been asking him to sit back and play disciplined, with Bradley having freedom to go forward. In the World Cup Beckerman played as the stay home D-Mid and Jones was unleashed.

Brek Shea is like Nuke LaLouche without the talent.

On 2008 before Angel, we was posting 500 post per game, when Angel left we were posting 150/200 post for game, Henry came and we are posting 18 post per game, look that while we get a new "Super Star" we became a synic fan of the RBNY, some ones praising this "off stars", but the fans watching and discussing the game are less and less game by game....

Brek Shea was an MLS MVP candidate when he was healthy

I'm willing to concede that his level of play was once much closer to his hype. That player is unlikely to reappear anytime soon and even less likely to thrive in the NY environment. There are too many distractions and there is too much pressure. He needs to go somewhere they gloss over his weaknesses, which are substantial. So long as Shea can find a club will that cater to his every whim and build its team round him, he might yet stage a comeback. But in a competitive club environment, such as he faces at Stoke, he withers under the pressure. He's not a good player for this team.

Don't know why you are so down on Shea. He's proven he can be a very good MLS player and whether or not he succeeds at Stoke is irrelevant. As for his attitude there has been much bigger headcases than him and for some reason alot of posters on this site potray him as a thug for w/e reaason.

Again on Diskerud is that apparently he's closing in with Cbus but there's a bit of a disparity in the salary as he wants to be paid more. My question is why don't we make a move?? I'm guessing he would count as a young DP so he would only count around 250k or so against the cap and he fits everything we are looking for..

    Imagine this?

    Henry-BWP-SAM
    ----Cahill-Mix
    --------Dax
    Miller-Olave-Sek-Duvall
    -------Robles

Henry will play in his typical role as a creator on the left flank, Sam will be a two way winger, Mix the "#10", Cahill the box-box and Dax the destroyer.

It doesn't seem like Mix is high profile enough to bypass the allocation order like Dempsey or Bradley did, and Columbus is currently top of the list. We're sitting at 12th, assuming he is subject to allocation order there's almost no way he would have fallen all the way to us.

We could trade up to that spot but what would we trade?

Apparently mix was offered 3x his current salary by Columbus and turned it down. Which only furthers the point that some young players only have eyes for Europe.

And apparently jones wanted Michael Bradley money to come to MLS. Yes he had a better World Cup but he's over the hill and didn't play better overall during qualifying than Bradley did. So I have no problem with MLS teams passing on his ridiculous salary demands.

Or greedy fathers/agents, isn't the story that Mix was willing to join but his dad mucked up the negotiations at the last minute by making ridiculous demands?

And yeah, someone needs to tell Jones that he's 5 years old and not as marketable as Bradley. No way he deserves that much, I thought the originally rumored $6M over 2.5 years was more than fair especially considering he's making less than that at Besitkas

Entirely possible, but that's not what the guys on ESPN were speculating during the All Star Game. And as much as Lalas and Twellman can drive people crazy they're usually spot on with their insider info.

Anyway...Twellman also said he's sitting on a transfer deadline story that hasn't been leaked yet. Keep an eye on his twitter.

Roxburgh's still got some moves up his sleeve apparently, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the expected announcements was for a DP that they have lined up to join in the winter.

I would bet we convert BWP to a DP in offseason based on how he has worked out with Red Bull. Do we replace Henry with another or Cahill is a different story.

Commentary: The "300-50-50 Club" gives us a new ...

FYI. This is a ranking that sets apart the players who have contributed the most to their clubs over a long career. Ironically, Henry, if he were to play another year, is poised to join the club of players with 50 goals and 50 assists. Currently he has 46 and 38 and will likely add to that total this year. What sets him apart, is he would achieve that mark in about half as many games as the other players. I for one was skeptical he would stick as long as he did, but there's no doubt about his quality.

I'm actually a bit surprised how well Henry has been holding up despite his age. If you ask me if he'd be playing every game two years ago I would have been very skeptical. I would give him another year as a DP if he's willing to continue for another season.

But that being said I think we need to part ways with Cahill if Henry stays on. We are very limited with our lineups with Henry and Cahill on the team and Cahill being played at a central midfielder is just wasting his skills imo. Maybe we can trade him to another MLS squad or sell him to an Australian squad and get some assets back to do a retool. However, this is if BWP does in fact become a DP.

In the offseason we need to get rid of Convey, Eckeserly, Kimura and Lyuindola we are in great shape for the start of next season and I expect us to do a major retool of our roster.

It's beyond amazing that you can't see what Henry brings to this team.

We have scored LOTS of goals everyear that he has been here. Luke Rogers, Kenny, Espindola and now BWP. Thierry makes these guys way better than they are without him. WAY WAY better.

Him and Juan Pablo are neck in neck for best Metro ever.

    Agreed on all fronts.

I have only hope that Henry can be convinced to stay for one more year...

And out of all the strikers that Henry makes better, I think BWP is by far the best of the bunch. All strikers need team mates to feed them, but BWP does more with less than the rest. Love his trap and shoot.

as much as I like Cahill, Australia can have him. He's going to be 35 and has dropped off a lot this season
