My question: is "Marshall" a pseudonym for "Burns"?

    Mike Marshall wrote on Nov.13:
FWIW, Jermaine Jones would fit this team like a glove. Really need a big, physical, ball-winning DM to fit in our system.
What they really needed this year was for Kalifa Cisse not to be a bust.

(Can't quote post directly for some reason)

the best thing about this whole signing is my last name is Jones. I can now get a Jersey customized with my name on it and people will think that its other Jones guy,,,,the Rev player:D

Sorry to crash your thread and congrats for the signing. I think perhaps the Krafts see the NFL on the downswing (concussion issues among players union and college and youth players) and the rule changes combined with MLS and soccer in general on the upswing. The handwriting is on the wall that American Throwball will never be the big bad hit fest it was in the 1970's and this thing they have been holding onto since the beginning may actually be the future? Also congratulations too because as it turns out the Fire owner Hauptman is actually worse than the Krafts.

This was a really satisfying signing, and I appreciate hearing positive buzz from other fans, but I think you're getting five or six steps ahead of yourself here. Jermaine Jones is a really bold signing for an MLS team that has never opened the pocketbook, but he's still earning less than whatever the Patriots are paying Sebastian Vollmer if you prorate their contracts. The Krafts appear to be just as committed to the Patriots now as they always have been.

Thanks for the positive vibes though.

We signed a Forward who is 23 and was a Dutch youth international

Blooter Burns grade for the year just went up to a solid "C" and I've put the tar and feathers back in the barn.

Over $4 million for 1.5 years.

Does that seem a little ridiculous to anyone else? That's basically 4 million for 1 season, because how likely is he to make a positive impact in just 10 games this season.

Dempsey's on 6.7 mil per year, Bradley's on 6.5 mil. We're overpaying, but the precedents been set that mls need to overpay to lure these guys away from Europe.

In all honesty, who the ******** cares? I don't care if Kraft pulled a dump truck of $100s up to Jermaine Jones door and said take as many as you want....1. because it's not my money, 2. because they have treated the fans like trash for years, 3. because they've never invested like this in players EVER.

I mean this contract is worth more than the salaries for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER we've had on our team for the past 3 years combine.

Why the hell would the Revs paying to much be a problem?

Because maybe some people would rather have 3 DPs at 1.5 mil each than 1 DP at 5 mil each.

    lol

then I tell those people to go root for another team. Maybe the Sounders? Cause's that's just laughable unrealistic. We are talking about an owner who hasn't spent a dime on this team in like a decade and now we are complaining that he spent too much?

Another quick question: Which game will Jones first start for NE?

What? Did you not understand what he said ? 1.5 x 3 = 4.5. So you can have 3 dps for what you signed JJ. How can you say that's unrealistic when your ownership just spent it on one player ?

Because it's our ownership and front office. The same one that has been telling us we would have a SSS for eight years and telling us we would sign the players we needed to actually improve our team and never did.

Christ, if Kraft didn't spend he'd be crucified and now there are actually people complaining that we overpayed?

    So dumb.

I wasn't complaining. Just stating a way to better allocate the money Kraft has spent.

Yeah, an even better way would have been to save it and spend it on a damn SSS. I'd rather have a SSS than 1 DP. But that's not realistic stuff.

Because, based on many years of the team's track record, there's no reason to expect that they'd have spent the money elsewhere if they hadn't given it to Jones.

But that would require to FO to engage and win on 3 separate DP-level players.

They don't do the "get a difference maker" thing so well, based on track record.

I'll give you Zenga, Jermaine, maybe Benny and Joe-Max. That's not much, DP-wise, over the history of the franchise - mayybbeeee 4, all time. (Of course I have overlooked some - but it still remains that it has been many years, and few players). And some of those fell into their lap, truly almost zero effort.

No way would I believe they could land 3 of them in one, even two, seasons.

If they did not pay JJ, then it would be money unspent. By the time the Revs are even thinking about another true DP-level spend, JJ may well be out of contract and retired.

Completely agree that I don't think they have what it takes to find and sign 3 successful DPs.

But you know, Bob Kraft is now the most ambitious owner in MLS so anything is possible.
