Carbonero should go to Porto first, they know how to take the Colombian talent to the next level and after that then he can try a big challenge like Monaco

Hopefully he goes to Europe maybe Falcao can have some pull and ask for him and while he's at it maybe he can pull Mejia and Sanchez and Franco too.

not a big fan of this move. Something about Racing = eventual downfall for Colombian players.

Well he was the best player of river last season that was champion. in argentina.......He plays as attacking midfielder in right side, with a lot of tactical work......and was called up for the NT in the world cup

He has a great shot and positioning to score..... I think that he inst very active in the creation of football......and you cant depend of him without a playmaker.....although he has a good number of assistances....

    Not a bad player.

The guy also has a winning history and mentality. He helped Huila make it to the Colombian Final in 2009. He helped Caldas make it to the Quarter Finals of the Libertadores in 2011 (Eventually losing to Neymar's Santos). He Won a Championship with Arsenal de Sarandi in 2012. And one with River this past season.
The guy always plays on teams that do well and he is a major reason why.

[IMG] Cesena's sporting director Rino Foschi has revealed that Roma have signed 24-year-old Carlos Carbonero from River Plate, although there has been no confirmation as yet from the Giallorossi.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio on Thursday, a deal worth between €8m-10m was close to being completed but the suggestions were that Carbonero would be sent immediately to either Cesena or Sassuolo in order that he does not take up a non-EU spot in the Roma squad. Similar deals were conducted last January for Leandro Paredes (Chievo) and Antonio Sanabria (Sassuolo).

Amid the reports that a deal was close, Foschi commented totuttomercatoweb.com that it had in fact been completed and Carbonero is now a Roma player, but he was not hopeful that Cesena would be able to take the 24-year-old on loan for next season.

"I can confirm that we like the player, but it would be difficult for him to come here because we're not talking about just any player", the sporting director explained.

"We're talking about a very talented player, who belongs to Roma. We'll just have to see now if we're able to come to an agreement with the Giallorossi".

Carbonero played 45 minutes for Colombia during the World Cup in the 4-1 win against Japan, and scored eight goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for River Plate last season. The Colombian already has a wealth of experience in South America, having made over 200 appearances for Atletico Huila, Once Caldas, Estudiantes, Arsenal and River.

It seemed earlier this week that the midfielder would be joining Racing Club, but Racing president Victor Blanco admitted to La Nacion on Sunday that "there's still a lot to do, we won't kid ourselves. We'll have a look at the figures, although he would prefer an offer from abroad".

Argentine football expert and former River Plate transfer adviser Bernard Krausz explained totuttomercatoweb.com that Roma fans would look forward to seeing Carbonero in action, describing him as similarly determined to Gennaro Gattuso.

"He's a mastiff of a player. I'd define him as a Gattuso with better feet", Krausz commented.

"He's someone who both the coach and the fans will like because he gives everything, he always comes off the pitch with a sweaty shirt. Having known Walter Sabatini for a long time, I'm not surprised that he's signed a player of such talent. I remember him from his time at Arsenal and you could see his quality then.

"Carbonero is a player who could play very well in a big team because, let's not forget, he's coming from River Plate. And if you play in front of 70,000 people at the Monumental, you can't be afraid of anything. In my opinion River are just like Real Madrid".

Forza-Roma.com also contacted FIFA agent Gianfranco Cicchetti to describe what sort of player Carbonero is, and Cicchetti highlighted the player's ability to play off either foot.

"Carlos Carbonero is one of the most interesting figures in the Argentine league", the agent said.

"He's one of River Plate's strengths. 178cm of strength, power and agility, he's a classic wide forward who can play both on the left and the right. He knows how to score with both feet and is gifted with an excellent shot, even from distance.

"In his movements and characteristics, he is very similar to Ibarbo. Estudiantes' scouts saw him at Once Caldas and brought him to Argentina, but he came to the fore at Arsenal where his excellent performances earned him a move to River Plate".

The difference is an investment group is selling Carbonero to Roma, while Balanta's transfer would have to be through River.

European teams know Argentine clubs' necessity to sell and therefore always lowball them.

Ofensive players tend to cost more than defensive ones

Yea but Balanta us labeled as a special talent or wonder kid you would think he'd be super costly. Carbonero doesn't have 1/5 the hype of Balanta

    There isn't any hype...
Only Argentieans, Colombians and some south Americans know Balanta and Carbonero
