The thing is though I do remember Beckham saying futbol then correcting himself to soccer at that meeting back in February, could he be looking to put the Miami MLS club to Miami Soccer Club? Miami S.C. Perhaps?
I honestly can't see him embracing "soccer" and plus they wouldn't let him live that down in the U.K., it's my belief that the S.C. is represent of some type of "Sport Club" from an organizational standpoint. The fact the Beckham's partner Marcelo Claure is also the owner of Club Bolivar, they may want to consolidate these teams under one umbrella and also there was some talk a few months ago of a possible partnership with Miami United FC and Beckham.
Speaking of names and the significance of the initials "S.C." The flexibility with a name like Sport Club Náutico Miami is the variety of shorter forms that people can use to refer to the team. I'm sure no one wants to always say the whole name. Just to take 2 examples from Portugal, no one says "Sport Lisboa e Benfica ComC OM MHIH" either; they simply say Benfica. Or, "Sporting Clube de Portugal OM ComM MH IH," (I'll bet most people didn't even know that Sporting Lisbon is actually Sporting Clube de Portugal.) So there's a ton of examples from around the world. In our case, Sport Club Náutico Miami can and would be shortened for everyday use. Here are some possibilities: SC Náutico Nautico SC Miami (or maybe Miami SC) Náutico Miami SCN Miami Miami Nauticos los Náuticos SCNM That's 8 possible short forms of the full team name. I suppose the media will narrow those down over time but that's a good set of common names to work with - one for every taste or cultural background. I have to believe that we've hit the jackpot with this identity!
Nautico Futbol Club Miami. Colors: Coral, Aqua, Blue ...SC = South Carolina. Remember. Don't get too cute. Nautico Futbol Club sounds like a foreign soccer team which would work very well in Miami. Plus, there is a lot of emphasis on calling the team just Miami too. Or, fans are able to call the team Nauticos or Miami Nauticos.
Thanks for liking the Nautico name as part of an official team name idea, and for your well-reasoned input! I'd probably hesitate to promote Coral, Aqua and Blue, if for Coral you mean Orange. I don't think we want to look exactly like Dolphins clones. I know some cities like Pittsburgh use the same team colours across the board. But that gets kind of boring in my opinion. It's possible to create a unique identity using colours similar to other area teams without matching them exactly. For example, promoting a different shade of aqua/teal, and then combining it with 1 or 2 other colours that are relevant to the nautical theme. Perhaps a gold shade as an accent or trim which would represent sunshine, nautical uniforms, and the famous landmark the Freedom Tower. When you start to take a look at photos of Miami and the So. Florida coastlines, the architecture, you begin to see a definite colour pattern and a lot of the same shades. There's a lot one can do with a nautical theme, which is what makes it fun to work with. What if the team went with a striped shirt inspired by famous sailor shirts that have been around for close to 200 years? And what about this for a captain's armband? I really am not worried about using SC versus FC. Especially when one sees the full name spelled out, they will see Sport Club or Sporting Club. I don't think anyone confuses AC Milan with air-conditioning. (And for what it's worth, SC can also mean Southern California, as in USC) I suppose all doubt would be erased by putting the SC in front. SC Náutico Miami. The other thing to remember too is that @Eleven Bravo is right, in the end, many fans might just call the team "Miami" no matter what official name or short names we have!
Odds Placed For Miami's MLS Team Name: Website makes 'Miami United' early 8-1 favorite http://www.local10.com/sports/odds-placed-for-miamis-mls-team-name/27411742
The website is oddschecker.com. They are like one of those travel websites that search the internet for the best bets. Skybet is the company giving the odds. Among the credible choices, FC Miami is 14-1 odds. They don't even have Internacional (Inter) on the list. Most of the list has no bearing in reality. For example, they list the Miami Humidity as a name choice at 50-1 odds, tied with the Goldenballs and the Manatees! And the Miami Sevens? as in what, the 7 deadly sins? I wonder who made this list. The only other decent name on there is Tropics. Clearly we have better concepts on this thread! Nothing on that list (except for FC Miami) is even near to being as good as SC Nautico Miami (imho) But catch this: You can get 25/1 odds that Miami wins MLS cup its 1st season, and 5/1 that they will win it all within their first 4 seasons!
It wouldn't surprise me if when it comes time for a name, that the fans get some voice too. What if each of the 3 owners picked the name they like and then the fans got to choose? That does sound fair, and it would probably be a tough choice. I really think the best name is one that will either have something in English + something in Spanish (like SC Náutico Miami) or a simple name that can be translated easily. (like Sport Club Miami / Club Deportivo Miami) or simply FC Miami (because the FC wouldn't change from Eng/Esp).
Not sure if anyone ever saw this, but it aired on BeInSport a week after the announcement on Feb 5, 2014 at the Pérez Art Museum. Some members of Southern Legion appeared on stage and the announcers each put forward what they thought the Miami team should be called. Nothing official of course, but fun to see what they said. (This video is in Spanish).
What might we call the new MLS Miami Team? My group's idea is now available in a short presentation available on YouTube from 10:00 pm EDT / 02:00 GMT Link is NOTE: This is not an official production of MLS, Miami Beckham United or Adidas, and certainly does not imply that there are no other great names for the new team. In fact, the ultimate name might take some ideas from us as well as others' So, in the spirit of keeping the anticipation alive and momentum building for #MLSMiami, enjoy!
Nautico , I can hear the jokes now, especially if orange is in the color scheme... Here come the Nachos. S.C. MIAMI MIAMI S.C. Dont use Soccer or Sports Club. just the initials.
LOLOL Nachos. While I award points for breaking the mold, I think Nautico tries too hard. Nautico makes no sense aside from Miami being on the water. Honestly if it were originally a sporting club based on boating like Fluminense then yea, I would understand but.... If you are gonna rip off basic Euro style names, I think Inter Miami works best. Easy cross referencing to it being the Gateway of the Americas, obvious homage to a team that's not used yet, and most importantly, rolls off the tongue and is super easy to remember. Please don't just do Miami FC or Miami United.....please.
it might be nice if nautica or cool water sponsored the team. those corporate logos might look nice on the front of the jersey.
What is everyone's thoughts on the new LA franchise with their name? You like the simplicity of LAFC? Just a thought of where the Miami team name direction may go.... Thoughts?
Apparently it's just the ownership name (LAFC). They will have a fan driven name- the- team event for the club.
Brian Straus@BrianStraus Just to triple check, MLS confirms LAFC name, colors are placeholders. Yes, LAFC was TMd and red/black were everywhere, but nothing decided.
Does anyone think, with all the hype surrounding Diego's Miami MLS team design, that Beck and Co would adopt it from him? So many people are giving positive reactions about it? Will Becks just use is concept?
there is already a 4th Division team named Miami United. Becks can partner with them as part of a a new MUFC soccer pyramid then he could use their name and colors - pink/black/aqua
Please! Is there anyone with connections to the ownership who can at least make them look at it and talk about it...not necessarily in public but internally. It's too good to be simply ignored. I don't think they would ever consider just adopting it but maybe they can at least work with him and/or get some inspiration from it!?
I Feel as if everyone has just stuck with Inter Miami as the team name, nobody wants a different name? I mean, IMO I like the Inter Miami name but my other choices that could go above it are Atletico Miami or even Deportivo Miami. So I just want to know, are we all decided on Inter Miami being the top choice? You guys think Becks, has seen Diego's concept? Hey did anybody see Jimmy Kimmel last night with David? I was about to watch and fell asleep, I wonder if he asker about the MLS Miami Franchise? Well lets keep this chat going like it was when last year february when Becks broke the news... Lets keep it live
