A poster on another forum inquired and from what I can gather they never actually purchased the rights...
That would make sense. It also seems to be the way GolTV works. Their website is indicative of the way they work.
But GolTV shows the Brazilian championship, Bolivian Championship, etc. In the pecking order they are as follows at least in the US: 1. ESPN 2. FOX 1 3. NBCSN 4. ESPN Deportes 5. GOLTV (and there is a big gap between 4 and 5) I think there is a market for the matches, I can not imagine that they would be that expensive to purchase. All they do is take take the feed and have someone sit and call the match in the studio. But this may be me the fan talking, not the businessman.
Well Brazil has a massive expat community. Bolivia a smaller one but there is probably still more interest for their domestic championship here than there is from Swiss expats, many of whom (unfortunately) care very little about soccer in general and probably wouldn't even watch the matches if they were living in Switzerland.
What I was trying to say is that there is a market for soccer. Some will watch any match as long as it is a match. I know what you are saying about Swiss expats not really paying attention to soccer. I have done quite a bit of research on Swiss soccer (I am a history prof, plus it allows me to watch a match and call it research) and Swiss sports in general. The Swiss, who are perceived as individualistic people, much prefer to participate than spectate, and when they do spectate, it is generally the individual sports. Tennis, Cycling, Triathlon, Skiing, etc. If you look at who has won the male and female Swiss athlete of the year, there are very few team sport athletes. Oops, sorry for the history lesson.
I actually like the history lesson! This is interesting, but team sports like hockey and soccer are still very popular in Switzerland? It's true though even throughout history who have been the biggest (only?) Swiss sports stars? Cyclists, skiers, tennis players. Soccer and hockey? Not so much.
Very popular yes, but that does not always translate to spectators. @Ed-D, could you post the link here of the BeIN schedule?
@EvanJ Thanks for the information in the RSL thread: http://www.livesoccertv.com/competitions/switzerland/super-league/ says BeIN Sports Connect will show games online. It says BeIN Sports will show Young Boys-GCZ on August 13, but BeIN Sports's website doesn't agree.
