It seems safe in the 140s (estimating here) will stand for a decade at least. Either need someone lighting up the league for 8-9 years or solid goal scorer for 13-16 years. Either seem hard to imagine right now given dynamics of the league.

Wow - I don't even know what to say. I became a fervent MLS/US soccer fan about the same time Landon burst onto the scene with the U-17s. My career as a fan is inextricably intertwined with his career as a player. He has always been my soccer hero, even though I'm a generation older. This feels like part of my identity as a soccer fan is dying.

Because my Timbers are sucking balls and have almost zero chance of winning anything this year, I would love to see LD go out on top, in front of his home fans, hoisting the MLS Cup as the MVP of the final. Please, Galaxy, give this legend the exit he deserves.

Now I'm starting to feel old. I remember @donovan9 dropping hints about "knowing the way to San Jose" like it was yesterday.

Well he said he made the decision before rolling into Seattle and spanking them.

    Also made this comment

""I certainly wasn't going to let one person's poor decision this summer affect my decision""

For post-soccer-retirement hijinks, I think Landon should just pick media fights with Jurgen.

Yes! Frankly I'll be disappointed if this doesn't happen.

And it hasn't gone without comment.

I demand a testimonial game featuring Team Landon vs Team Jurgen.

Landon just wanted to make sure Chivas USA was dead and buried. "My work here is done..."

Anybody remember Celebrity Boxing? Landon/Jurgen could give Screech/Horschak a run for greatest bout ever.

I was quite angry with Donovan after the 2009 MLS Cup.

But then I realized that he's one of the most genuinely nice people one the planet. He's not some super jock, smack talking type who masks his emotions. Every time one of the SGs in LA would do something for charity he would find a way to get involved.

And anyone who questions his commitment to furthering the game in the US can suck it. Not only has he done more than anyone else for soccer on the field, but he's freely given his time and money to help promote every level from the USMNT to local AYSO.

There may be another like him, or even an opportunity for someone to do what he's done.

Regardless how some may perceive Landon Donovan good or bad, he'll always have my respect for what he's done for our National team and the level of commitment he gave to the grow of Major League Soccer in this country! He could've gone overseas for greater fame and many, yet he stayed here and committed himself for far less to help the growth of American soccer.

I understand the decision, but nonetheless it really bums me out to see him step down at 32. End of an era indeed.

Oh, and the Galaxy should wear the sweet gold pre-Beckham shirt for Lando's last game.

At this point even JK knows his lies and bullshit have been so transparent with regards to LD that anything he says will be considered a pile of horseshit anyway. Smarter to say nothing. Almost no one believes he left off LD for soccer reasons, even his biggest supporters.
