Here something to think about as it also relates to Miami, MLS has placed great emphasis on establishing expansion clubs in the Southeast and in spite of the troubles with Beckham finding a Miami site, the league still remains bullish on Miami. Sometimes we just have to span out to see the bigger picture, today that bigger picture became a little more clear. The league will needs warmer climate cities, especially if they are seriously considering a FIFA calendar down the road like MLS President Mark Abbott said. Sepp - Blatter Comments That MLS has decided To Adopt The Fifa Calendar: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...t-mls-has-decided-to-adopt-the-fifa-calendar/ Ives Galarcep @SoccerByIves 33m MLS president Mark Abbott on Sepp Blatter’s recent FIFA calendar comments: League looked into it, open to it down the road, nothing imminent
One of the things discussed with the last World Cup bid was, if the United States was to be chosen, our domestic league would have switch calendars. When it was awarded to a little country in the middle east with extreme temperatures, we or I should say MLS was no longer obligated to make that switch. But now with the corruption bought to light and pressure calling to withdraw the current bid, it's a very strong possibility that the United States could be aware that bid. Now Blatter may already know something regarding the bid, and maybe that's why he came out saying that the "MLS has decided to switch to a FIFA calendar". Yes we'll have to take a wait and see approach, but that little Blatter comment has so much implications for MLS and the United States Soccer Federation.
Isn't the NCAA considering some type of split soccer season scheduling too? I recently heard something about that and it's getting big time approval by some of the big names in college soccer and MLS too.
FIFA cares far more about MLS not playing on FIFA dates. But if they did make that demand, I expect the US would pass on hosting a WC. At least for the foreseeable future.
MLS and their billionaire owners will show them profit margins from 1994 converted to 2026 dollars and have a collective giggle?
It suck that Pro/Rel wont happen here, imHo I would want it even if that mean my team has the possibility of being relegated. imagine all the lower league teams now picking up steam to go to the MLS, they would just have to get to promotion. I would want it but I know a lot that would disagree. I wanted to bring up the topic of the scheduling for Miami MLS, remember when they were talking about having the stadium in downtown/ Port and how they would make every game a night game? Well now with the stadium possibly moving to outside downtown area would the schedule likely be the same? I mean for Miami being Miami, wouldn't you want most of the games on weekends to be around 3-7pm unless its a big game then go primetime (8pm) on Saturdays, since a lot of Miamians would most likely go out to eat, club, lounge after a match? Just a thought. For CCL matches, since they are mostly on T-W-Th they definitely have to be at 7-8pm games and US Open Cup game T-W also at 7-8pm games ( for the youngins to atleast be heading home early for school). What schedule would you guys prefer?
