Those are examples of players entering the highest levels of the game? Top clubs banging on the door for these players? Lets talk 92's 93's that are their peers that are at or entering highest level coutinho, j campbel, neymar, lukaku, draxler need I say more! U think Origi, max Meyer , Quintero would reach their potential playing in MLS now...... Nooooooooo.
And if MLS did help him develop into Neymar, the Big Soccer intelligentsia would then question why MLS didn't help him develop into the next Maradona.
Ironically they were better when they were down to 10 men. That seems to happen in soccer sometimes...................... The Revs were dominating the game before the red card to Miazga. The Revs announcers, by the way, were debating whether it was a red or a yellow card. It was a badly timed and late challenge as the excellent Lee Nguyen was charging down the field. In real-time it looked terrible. On replay he slid in and tried to prevent the collision, but it was way too late. It was one of those naïve plays you see with young players as they learn the "speed of the game" at this level. And in this case it was the "speed of thought" of Lee Nguyen.
So basically Miazga is unlikely to play again this season, unless the Red Bulls' back line is decimated by injuries?
Who knows.................... I think Sekagya and Armando are pretty mediocre. It'll basically be Olave and a rotating cast of characters.
EPB became the first '97 to sign a HGP contract a year ago yesterday. Any guesses on who will be the first '98 to sign a HGP contract?
So, we clamor for our young players to get first-team minutes, blame their teams when they don't and then crucify them when they play like young kids - got it.
I think it's more who will be the first to accept a HGP contract. I'd be very surprised if Haji Wright and Christian Pulisic haven't been offered contracts already from the Galaxy and Union, respectively. I'd start with the Copa Mexico roster of prospect Copa Mexico de Naciones:GOALKEEPERS (2): William Pulisic (Richmond Strikers; Mechanicsville, Va.), Kevin Silva (PDA; Bethlehem, Pa.)DEFENDERS (7): Hugo Arellano (Chivas USA Academy; Norwalk, Calif.), Daniel Barbir (West Bromwich Albion; Allentown, Pa.), Tanner Dieterich (Unattached; Nashville, Tenn.), Edwin Lara (Juventus; San Leandro, Calif.), John Nelson (Internationals; Medina, Ohio), Matthew Olosunde (New York Red Bulls Academy; Trenton, N.J.), Alexis Velela (San Diego Surf; San Diego, Calif.)MIDFIELDERS (5): Eric Calvillo (Real So Cal; Palmdale, Calif.), Luca de la Torre (Fulham; San Diego, Calif.), Thomas McCabe (PDA; South Orange, N.J.), Christian Pulisic (PA Classics; Hershey, Pa.), Alejandro Zendejas (FC Dallas Academy; El Paso, Texas)FORWARDS (6): Pierre Da Silva (New York Soccer Club; Port Chester, N.Y.), McKinze Gaines (Lonestar SC; Austin, Texas), Joe Gallardo (Monterrey FC; San Diego, Calif.), Josh Perez (Unattached; La Habra, Calif.), Elijah Rice (Chicago Magic PSG; Highland Park, Ill.), Haji Wright (Unattached; Los Angeles, Calif.) I assume that the PDA players don't qualify for Union HG contracts anymore, but I may be wrong. I'm not sure it Edwin Lara played long enough at San Jose to qualify for a HG deal. Pierre da Silva may end up being NYCFC's first HG.
By the way.......................I believe that Coy Craft is now the youngest player in MLS. He's a month younger than EPB. As far as 98's? I don't know. It really is too early to tell. I'll go out on a limb and say Alejandro Zendejas. He's at a club that signs a lot of homegrown talent, and will likely head back to Dallas after the U17 World Cup. They won't want him to get away.............................(like Haji Wright is going to get away from the Galaxy)
Nice article on Tommy Redding. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...megrown-players-0804-20140803,0,5998113.story
That's what I was thinking. Will they have a spot open soon for another HGP? They just signed Craft, so I am assuming that they don't right now.
They'll figure out the roster dance at the time. Who knows what slots will be available in the next MLS off-season..................... Richard Sanchez hasn't yet left for Tigres, so that opens one developmental roster slot for sure. That transfer was delayed due to Seitz' injury. There are a couple of academy players ahead of Zendejas in the queue, as well as NCAA players. So we'll see. I suspect a '98 won't be signed for a while................. This is going to sound nuts, but watch out for this young keeper Carlos Avilez. They're REALLY high on him. He's a January 99. They may need to wrap him up early like they did with Sanchez and Gonzalez. Sometimes these names come out of nowhere. You want my "best guess" on the next player to be signed right out of the academy? Shaq Moore (once he gets closer to being here for a year).
More opportunities for these young players when the other MLS clubs start having teams that play in USL Pro.
It's absolutely him. He did an AMA on reddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/SJEarthquakes/comments/2c9x81/tommy_thompson_ama/
