i think what also needs to be addressed is the type of players and style i think more cruyff courts and futsal will produce faster thinking technical players who are comfortable on their feet

also american reflex training for goalies that americans use for baseball. hell even curacao who have andrelton simmons who has incredible reflexes. remember cruyff played honkball

Though, what American keeper has better reflexes than Kenneth Vermeer?

Tim Howard was pretty amazing in the last US WC match

I thought that performance was overrated. Just a dozen lousy finishes by Belgium resulting a doable saves. The volume of saves made him a hero, but the difficulty of each save was every time within "doable" margins. I have to see every save again to make sure I do not sell him short, just my impression from that game.

Anyway, I touched on 1 facet of the job. Reflexes. Howard having better reflexes than Vermeer?

If there is something that I want developed again, it's keepers that can kick a ball like van der Sar. Good distribution.

No Howard does not have quicker reflexes than Vermeer. IMO the only keeper that rivaled Vermeer as a shot blocker was Casillas but his skills seem to have completely deserted him within the last year. His confidence must also have been shattered when Ancelloti kept Lopez in the lineup and now they have brought in Navas to be their #1.

Vermeer just could not bring the rest of his game up to the top level. Could never kick well at all and he had a disastrous match against Utrecht a couple of years ago that we Ajax fans didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I wouldn't have even called it Howard's best game. And not a doubt in my mind that Friedel and Kasey Keller are his equals. IMO, Keller had more obstacles to overcome.

Though I think all three are excellent keepers..

i see how i worded it wrong sorry. what i meant is taking training americans use for baseball and applying it to goalies for soccer

its not to compare american goalies but other sports where side to side movement and reflexes play a role. to adapt to one sport what you learn from another. yoga or ballet to improve balance and flexibility. judo for balance and leverage. field hockey for tactics. futsal for ball dribbling skills or 4v4.

americans have three positions in the sport of baseball where reflexes are needed big time. shortstop, third base and second base. shortstop and third base share responsibility to guard 90 feet of space if we assumed evenly 45 thats almost double a goal they have 4 seconds to get the ball set up and throw a guy running to first base

if you desire to watch highlights of antiliaanse player andreton simmons considered the best defensive players in baseball

That's called Exos now. They've actually been around a while. Great business idea. They have a location not far from me and I'm scheduled to visit them sometime soon for a benefit. It was my understanding that the guy who started that was a trainer at K-State under Bill Snyder. This kinda thing was a big change in a lot of off-season work for more than just pro football.

It gave the US a slight advantage for a while. The problem now is that everyone else has caught on:(

Those EXOS guys have worked closely with Adidas, a tailor-made approach/technology that's commercially branded as 'miCoach'.

It is an advantage that Netherlands will never have.

Another difference maker can be 'big data'.

Also the larger football clubs use that extensively to a greater or lesser extent. Just to give an idea: past year or so I read in 'Algemeen Dagblad' that 20 Spaniards were studying the Netherlands NT. And the sports university in Cologne was studying the Eredivisie extensively.

The University of Cologne (which is more closer to a 'hogeschool' in the Netherlands, but translated as 'university' in English parlance...) put priority on the top 10 main challengers, I read back then. Netherlands belonged among those top 10 so they studied the Eredivisie.
Also Spain had 20 people allocated to translate Netherlands into 'big data'...

Just Wow!! Massive respect to our bald prince! :) Hope he remains in top shape till the 2018 WC..Something tells me he will never cease to persevere until he has won THE ultimate prize in football! God bless this guy! Such a pleasure to watch! It'll be so difficult for us to replace him once he hangs up his boots! This just made my day! The sheer belief and exuberance is indeed wonderful!

If the next generation will be as good as that of Snejder, Van Persie and Robben in attack and will have a much stronger defence than the current team has, than Netherlands certainly will have their chance :)

I think sooner than later, yes. I feel like this upcoming generation is strong and industrious. There may not be an elite striker, but with the talent coming on the wings, midfield and defence with the right manager we can win it all.
