The best part of last night were the teams sitting on stools or lawn chairs or whatever they had out in the middle of right field.
But it and a very windy day provided a memorable evening at CAB. Wasn't a good night to be an intern.
That's who I pick. You get the satisfaction of being right. All the whole, people on BS will call you stupid and that you don't know anything.
Why are people complaining about the stadium - would they rather not have a team at all for the next five years while MLS tries to build a new one?
Some of us would be quite happy if the league didn't force a second NY team on us and instead followed the blueprint of recent successful franchises in smaller, more passionate cities. But, since they went ahead with their plan, the shadenfreude of watching games played on a horrible field in front of a majority-empty stadium will be most delicious.
What makes you so sure? Getting something like this done in NYC is a nightmare. We're talking a decade-long project and that's once you've actually identified the place of land. They are nowhere near even that stage. From the (lack of) sound of it, they are absolutely at square 0 for finding a space. Like completely out of ideas. Which in fairness, there aren't any. There just isn't a parcel of land like that in the four boroughs that you can build a SSS on. I'd be prepared for a very long wait.
You'd rather not have a team at all than be "forced" to watch one play at a (very nice) baseball stadium? Are we talking about NY fans here, or is it people elsewhere in the country who don't want to have to watch highlights from a baseball stadium?
I really like how this has set up. It's allowed us to be the hated team in MLS as fans across the league are actually rooting against this club both on and off the field! With prior expansion teams league fans get all excited and give their "good for you" comments for each successful milestone a new club reaches. With this club, it's going to be great when we have the 2nd best in attendance in the league next year and hopefully announce a new stadium! Meanwhile, as a Yankee fan (who does not really follow baseball anymore), I love being that team that everybody in the league hates! It makes success that much better. Obviously we can all argue about how successful this club will be short and long term, but it's pointless to waste my time since we have to wait and see anyway! Go City!
I'd rather have a team that comes about as the result of a genuine desire to see the MLS product that will be on display. Instead, for several years we heard the league constantly pound home the message that NYC2 was needed to really turn the area into an MLS hotspot and how this would pay off with increased media attention and whatnot. Then, the league goes out and actively pursues a stadium without an ownership group lined up...only to fall flat on their face as none of their proposals are given the go-ahead. But wait! While teams such as Orlando are told that they have to jump through numerous hurdles to be awarded an MLS franchise (including the big deal of actually having somewhere to play) the league simply awards the NYC2 team to a group of wealthy owners that--surprise--haven't had any further luck in finding a permanent home for the club within NYC...you know, the whole reason why the league "needed" a second NY franchise. That said, I'm not against the idea of a second NY team. I'd simply rather the league waited until the team had actually secured a concrete plan of what the future would bring instead of rushing the product out the door to try and achieve "relevance."
So I guess FIFA is going to prohibit Argentina from having a 30 team league next year? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/soccer-argentina-votes-30-team-top-flight-012220492--sow.html
I suppose there's an argument for beginning play wherever, then learning who your fans are and figuring out where and what kind of venue to get for them.
