Boy, if DC is that hot and humid around 19:30 I'd hate to see what playing for Beckham's new Miami club will feel like in the dead of summer
^^Orlando Florida has a team starting next season and they have already signed Kaka. Dutch NT played three matches there back in the 1994 WC (2 pool and the first knockout match) winning two and losing one. These matches were played at mid-day for Euro TV and if I remember correctly the conditions were stifling. Orlando is inland and there are no sea breezes to cool things down. Florida is much worse during the summer than up here in Washington as once it gets hot, it stays hot.
Mid summer matches still make more sense than dying of hypothermia playing in -20 in December - February
So how are players gonna be able to cope with that hot Florida weather then?? Start games around 9PM or so??
I was thinking, wouldn't it be possible to hang a bunch of sprinklers over the field that spray misting water to cool players down? You'd need to make sure they don't interfere with high balls, but I'm sure there are ways around that.
Maybe the Dutch women will win the WC before the men. Here is a link for watching the U19 final of the U19 women WC 2014: http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=269974&part=sports Miedema is the upcoming Marco van Basten of women football. Hope to see more world class players developed soon. Game starts in 3 hours from this post.
^^^ that would be really cool. I noticed form watching field-hockey our Dutch ladies dont choke like the men do. The Women's Oranje field-hockey team is feared around the world
hi guy, i'm here to promote a documentary i am doing currently about my experience of the world cup 2014 i had in new york city. i went to places all over to watch the games. i had a fantastic time. i documented my experience and i am here to leave you with a trailer of the documentary and will be premiering later in august. hope you guys enjoy it when it's uploaded. for netherlands, i went to two games. first against mexico and quarter-final clash against costa rica.
Tried to stalk our man in Rome, Kevin Strootman tonight. However, tonight was bring your own security night at the Dallas Cotton Bowl. Who knew? . Though I must say, I wish they would publicize that a bit better. Fans(and I mean 50+) stormed the field and interrupted the game in the 85th minute and Roma escaped with a 1-0 win. Roma has a strong back line, Kevin will fit in well. But they'll need to do more tonight to score points...
A larger share of the Olympic medals have been won by the women as by the men, for the Netherlands. Often cited reason is the emancipation. But it has always been that way, also before it became codified in laws. http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1043/Olympis.../18/lsquo-Mannen-geven-strijd-eerder-op.dhtml Interestingly though, former women NT coach Vera Pauw has often stated in the media that Netherlands is a too feminine culture, whereas other European countries possess a masculine culture (which is a scientifically legitimate opinion, that Netherlands has a feminine business culture). http://weblogs.nrc.nl/media/2009/09/09/de-feminiene-cultuur-van-de-nederlanders/ http://www.volkskrant.nl/vk/nl/2844...2009/08/22/Langzaam-groeit-de-erkenning.dhtml ---- On subject: that only Lazio was interested in Stefan de Vrij is not a good sign. Esp. when defenders are transferred for 50 million these days. It's a sign that 'our' players aren't wanted/hyped/loved/rated that much these days. For whichever reasons.
I just hope its a little down period Holland is in, but it could be sign of something worse as well. Feyenoord down 1-0 right now. Not looking good
I'm a control freak. Plus Dallas has had a bit of a history with insurrections. My calls for a machine gun pit were unheeded.
12 months can change a lot... There is no validity in this, but my heuristic is approximately 5. Meaning you need five world class players and you have a nucleus of talent. Beneath that, I think the bulk of player talent comes from middle to lower economic backgrounds. Money is a motivating force like no other, and players that want it won't stop til they get it. It's always possible that the well can run dry, but Holland has had too much recent success to think that there isn't an sizable pool of players itching to take their game to the next level. The real question is does the framework exist to make it happen.
El Cid, I agree with you more or less, sooner or later Holland will have a world class team again. I just think we might have a dry period of 3 to 5 years, just like Germany had from 2003 to 2008
It's definitely unrealistic to assume that Holland will be a top 5 team indefinitely. Let's face it, Holland has over achieved for quite some time. All things trend towards the mean, so I expect a swing eventually. Just hoped it wouldn't be too soon...

Yes, that are rumours. Undoubtedly fueled by Van Gaal his presence and Manchester United their overpriced signings in the past 1-2 years. But what has been materialized thus far does not look good. I mean: De Vrij was next to Vlaar 'our' best defender at the World Cup (according to Castrol, OPTA, WhoScored even team of the tournament material), yet very little interest from foreign clubs. Lazio was purportedly the only one interested. Why? Does anyone have an idea? And not for a great transfer sum either.
