I would have loved to see him play as our LM because of his speed and service. I think he would have played well with Silva, ROlfe and Espindola.
Houston looking to move Ashe in order to fit Beasley in. I really, really, really hope DC doesn't try to get him.
All speed, minimal defense. He's gotten better over the years, but he's not any better than what we've already got.
Is Ashe that bad? We definitely need a left back (for depth if nothing else, Korb as starter has been working) and the MLS Game Summary shows Ashe as the starting left back for Houston for the past 4 seasons including two years they made the MLS Cup finals. Thought they were known for a solid defense back then. Wasn't he also called up for the USMNT for a game or two a few years back? He has apparently sat 3 of the past 5 games - not sure if there are any injury / level of play issues there.
Really nice article on Perry Kitchen from USA Today http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/perry-kitchen-dc-united-mls
Ashe is making roughly what Christian did(165k) so it would essentially be a straight swap. Ashe, when playing well can be very good and this is a move that does make a certain degree of sense. However, I really do not want the 2014 Corey Ashe who's been exposed quite a lot back there even with poor central defenders next to him. If we can get the old Corey Ashe then I say go for it. Otherwise, I'm pretty skeptical about this possibility as well.
yeah, I was thinking about Ashe earlier when I saw he was being shopped. As recently as two years ago I would have said no way, but the last few times I have seen Houston play I have actually been impressed with his growth. I remember how highly he was touted coming off the U-17 year where he provided tons of assists to the other bust from that team, *ducks flying kittens* Freddy Adu
I forgot to mention Hamid was on 106.7 The Fan talking about watching the World Cup and being selected as an All-Star with Bill Rohland around 7pm yesterday.
Interesting data. It would seem to argue that although we do a good job of clogging the passing lanes, we let more dangerous passes through.
Saw this initially on twitter via Chris Pontius, but kinda buried on the team web-site: http://www.dcunited.com/news/2014/07/dc-united-to-visit-childrens-national-medical-center Unfortunately, the DC United Community web-site has this only as an event in the future, not pictures from it. And Pablo Maurer has more on his twitter
Have no idea if we're in the mix--but just heard on Argentine tv that Matias Perez Garcia is being looked at by an unnamed team in MLS. I am hoping it's us....because this guy would fix some issues at the center of the park. Edit: he's one feisty little guy with good vision, a lefty with tight dribble control (win us FK's), and is pretty quick. I like him...but I am sure you could guess that by his playing style.
@Bolivianfuego, you keep coming up with these guys that look really good. I hope we can get a couple of them some time, and accomplish some of the things we did when we had Etcheverry & Moreno.
I have a deep suspicion that the horses we have are the horses we're riding to the end of the season.
On the face of it, it would be hard to argue it. We're dancing around first place, on good form, expecting the return of 2 offensive players (Espindola and Pontius), and our DP seems to be, maybe, slowly, warming up (EJ). So, for a team that basically was shooting for the playoffs, you'd think standing pat would be a fine idea. But just like I said last summer, and as we all know this summer/winter transfer merry -go round goes, if the better players are available in the summer, you should be planning for next year now. We should be picking up someone on 50% of the annual hit, in anticipation of changes coming next year. And IF our goal was just to make the playoffs this year, then for next year we should be talking about winning it all, and that process starts now.
