Fantastic signing. They owed us for Robben.

Can't wait to see Kroos and Modric play together.

    So, German Xavi sort of?

I'll be honest, before the WorldCup I didn't think too highly of him. Saw him as a bit of a "safe & nothing special player" .. His last two games in the WC watching him closely seeing how everything Germany did went through him I'm excited & looking forward to seeing what he can do with us alongside Luka.

If he's directly replacing DiMaria in the lineup we'll definitely miss Angel's energy & penetration. A more stable consistent midfield might be a better alternative.

That trio @Eddie posted looks a lot like what Barca used to roll out & won so much with.

Goodluck to him. Let's do this.

That would leave us almost as imbalanced as last season. Signing of Kroos changes many things in my opinion.

    Kroos--Midfielder
    --------Modric-----

With Kroos we would struggle to play a two-man midfield. We all know Modric and Kroos must start, and that an aggressive/physical/fast teams would destroy a two-man midfield of Kroos and Modric.

So that leads me to the conclusion we must play a three-man midfield. Regardless of popular opinion on this forum, Modric can play the holding role, has played it for us in the past and done well at it. Kroos would play the same position he played effectively for Germany recently and we'd need another midfielder (preferably a box-to-box type) to help balance out any lack of speed, physicality, space or movement from our midfield.

Last year we had Xabi playing holding, Modric playing Kroos role and Di Maria providing the extra. While very effective because of Di Maria's uncanny ability it was still unbalanced and dangerous. If we weren't at full power we were easy to control and counter.

Modric might be moved deeper. And it might work. He has the intelligence and workrate to make it work.

Either way Kroos is a great signing which adds needed depth, and a positive selection headache.
