You see it one way, others see it another. That's fine, but if this was % wise, most agree it was an tight affair game. If that's your definition of superiority sure, ok, that's fine, but if we're talking about percentage, you lose on stats.

Speaking of stats, the percentage was 10 shots for both teams, but Germany put more on net. That's what I think you're looking at. If you take chances into account, Argentina had equal or higher, but because they flopped, they don't register in the stats department.

Germany though did already neutralize, a neutralized attack. With Lavezzi, Enzo, Messi and Higuain there was more momentum, but as soon as Gago, Aguero and Palacio came on, it was marginally easier for Germany. Messi became a non factor.

Never expected this glory before the WC, so many injured players, before the WC started (Neuer, Schweini, Khedira, Hummels) and so many player which had to stay home (Marco Reus, Bender Twins, Ilkay Güdnogan) and we got it despite of those ********ing problems!

And respect to Schweini! Euro 2012 is forgotten, more than that!

Nobody thinks Brazil past glories have disappeared and I am sure Brazil will bounce back as a World Power
Wanting Argentina to lose after your embarrasing is a logical thing, no problem with that
But making fun of others who have put a performance you were not able to is miserable
Yes, a lot of brainless argentines sing stupid songs and provoke brazilians...I am not one of them, I hate that, and I thought the people in this forum were above that
You, evidently, chose to descend to that level

Was supporting Argentina (read Messi) in Brazil but gotta say congratulations to Germany, they played a great tournament and a lot of credit to Loew, when some things weren't working he changed and adapted as the tournament progressed. Haven't seen it mentioned but they came into this tournament without Marco Reus, Gundogan and the two Bender brothers plus Khedira and Schweinsteiger who had some fitness issues but still won. Congrats to the whole team and their fans, Muller was great and I feel Kroos has come of age.

Congratulations to Argentina as well, Romero, the whole back four and Mascherano deserve a lot of credit. Upfront though one can't help but feel sorry for Messi, never saw these perfomances by Higuain, Aguero and Palacio coming, the guy received no help up there.
As for his Golden Ball, it is questionable, especially compared to what he is capable of at his best i.e 2009-2012. But ignoring that, he had as strong a claim as Robben, Muller and James (any of those four could be a worthy winner IMO).

Anyway, congratulations to both sets of fans.

I never made fun of Argentina performance, I thought it was funny Argentinas asking for directions and said it will be a long drive for them

"a lot of brainless argentines" are actually all the 100K that came to Rio, they all sang and they all had their fun which is part of the game and the rivalry (I thought that given the circumstance we were quite accepting) I kept the most provoking post to the rivalry forum so not sure what you mean by "chose to descend to that level". To hear trash from a Rival is part of the game, deal with it

Well that was pretty much the game I expected, Argentina defending really good being dangerous on the counter, Germany trying to dictate the tempo and crack that Argentinian nut. A hard fought battle that could have ended either way.
In the end, Götze was just the better Messi.

Almost every World Cup final ever played could have had a different outcome if this player had done this or that player had done that

Ok, surely I can not nor want to defend that attitude of the argentine fans, that greatly irritated me from the beginning of the cup
Also the argentine TV was celebrating and encouraging that. Shame, but TV is trash not onaqly here...
As you say, they are getting payback
I had say here that also that was stupid since we could lose in any instance
That rivalry may be funny but also put peowple against people and can be dangerous. It is a narrow line.

I am a German supporter so I've been celebrating a bit if you know what I mean. Thought it was a pretty good game and things changed a bit when Lavezzi was subbed. I knew it would be a tough fight against Argentina and it was. The feeling of finally winning is stupefying and I really didn't expect that. Congratulations to Brazil on hosting maybe the best WC ever or at least in my lifetime. I also thought I would put a shout out to Algeria, toughest match at this WC but Argentina was close. :) Weltmeister 2014! Deutschland über alles!

I based it on watching the match but since you mentioned it how do I 'lose on stats' when Germany are ahead on practically every metric? As for your 'equal or higher' chances comment that is what happens when a team approaches the game as Argentina did. The six at the back (when you include Mascherano and Biglia sitting deep in front of the defence) stifles the chances an opponent is able to create and leads to more blocked shots. By contrast playing on the break using quick players against a high defensive line will generally lead to better chances as you catch teams out of position and exploit gaps. It is hardly surprising to find that Argentina had higher percentage chances as a result. However it is incorrect to claim this means they played well or that Germany did not enjoy superiority. The blown Argentine chances stand out but Germany were equally culpable in that department with numerous weak shots straight at Romero or missed shooting opportunities. Germany created but did not take their chances. That's the only reason Argentina were still in the match for so long.

I said at the start that for a good game we needed Germany to score first in order for Argentina to open up and be more offensive. Unfortunately they did not and the game suffered as a result.

Marketing imo. Adidas is the big FIFA sponsor for the balls, shoes and awards

The Messi name is a sexier money maker than Neuer, Muller, or James.

And guess who's Messi's biggest sponsor? Adidas.

    He was a shoe-in.

That was a tight affair and of course I'm glad Germany won. Have to go back to partying soon but want to throw a few words in

A good bit of luck for us today but we deserved that for a change. Nobody but us has been so consistently close to major trophies with us winning medals in the last five tournaments (Euros included) and in the last four World Cups. It was time we got some luck.

Three European Wins in a row now tips the balance 11-9 into Europe's favour, we've definitely seen a shift in World Cup power.

Argentina were strong but in a way it would have been a travesty to win a World Cup if you can't score. In four knockout games they scored only two goals. In a way it was reminiscent of Argentina in 1990 where they nill-nilled themselves through the tournament. Higuain's goal after seven minutes against Belgium was the last goal they scored. Sorry, but not enough to be the best in the world.
