I'm watching now at my empty TV screen and that feeling like something beutiful is gone from my home. It seems only yesterday World Cup kicked-off and here is the end. Damn, I will miss World Cup.
Put a Shakira concert video on, and something beautiful will be back on your screen. Anyway, the match wasn't pretty - finals seldom are - but the better team won. I read a book about Tango once that described Argentinians as 'Italians on a beef diet'. Now we know why. I will miss that opening cartoon sequence with the Brazilian boy watching the proceedings below. That boy could be me.
Congratulations to Germany to a well-deserved, dominant World Cup title. I thought it was a great final despite the lack of goals, and Argentina probably played their best match of the tournament. I tried to go for South America for as long as I could, but towards the end I just couldn't take another team to win the Cup after so many mediocre performances against mediocre teams. The Cup is in the right hands.
Ok, fine, if you want to play that game - Argentina got away with the foul on Kramer in the box - so it's pretty much a wash IMO. Actually Argentina got away with two easy red cards - Schweinsteiger getting punched in the face should have been a 2nd yellow.
What you mean, yes we lost 7x1 so be it, we had a bad team and lost to a good Germany, if you can't take a bad loss you shouldn't play the game besides the last I checked we were still Penta Campeões (5x) 7x1 doesn't null our past I had fun watching Germany win, it will be a long drive and I have all the right to make fun of that (they sure incorporated the 7x1 to their song, it is pay back time)
Neuer challenge as red/pk as kramer challenge earlier in the game.. both are not PK or red cards i would say Howedez escaped a red card instead of Neuer challenge
Boateng is my MOTM. So many crucial shutdowns, jockeys, and tackles. Anyone else? Who was the official MOTM btw?
Just got back from watching the game with a few Argies. The brain said Germany would win. Good for them. Sorta "blah" about them in general. Argentina had their chances, and didn't do it. I don't see them doing much in 2018. Messi has no help. Still love him though.
Yes. Superiority. Germany had more everything but failed with the final ball or finish. This was in part due to the defensive pressing and number of players Argentina had in defence. There was always going to be chances on the break for Argentina due to the high defensive line Germany employ. This waa comounded by the relative lack of pace in defence compared to your attack (not helped by Hummels carrying a knee injury that will require treatment after the tournament). Finally your set-up was to sit deep to stifle then exploit the above on the break. Both sides were poor in attack but Germany created more, caused more problems, forced more saves and finally took a chance.
This. Whoscored rankings are very subjective and based on their own weird metrics. Other sites have their own as well. I pretty much only like Whoscored when it comes to compiling actual match data....not them coming up with their own rating system. And I only like their match stats because they obtain them from the reputable OptaSports research firm, which is also used by ESPN, Chelsea, and other companies looking for player analysis.
Germany's title legitimity and fairness can not be disputed An argentine victory could not have been either Argentina was the stronger rival for Germany. It was the right Final.
In response to an earlier post, Honestly, I dont think people online are crazy when they think that this Golden Ball award is a primer to try and give Messi the Ballon Dor. As it stands, I can only see Suarez and Ronaldo as true finalists. Saurez had an absolutely great season in arguably the best league in the world. And Ronaldo won Copa Del Rey, Golden Boot, UCL title, broke UCL goal record, and carried his team all season. I dunno how no titles but a Golden Ball for Messi beats that. But I wouldnt be surprised. Remember when Snjider won treble in 2010 and went to World Cup final (got the silver ball too I think), but lost the Ballon? Remember how Xavi and Iniesta basically were the heart and veins of Barca and Spain (winning the World Cup) and still lost?
Gotze was the FIFA Man of the Match for the goal, but Schweinsteiger was the highest rated player on Sky Sports. NBC Sports also named Schweinsteiger MotM. He was the Man of the Match, in my opinion. So dominant in the midfield with clean, crisp passes and effective challenges.
Popularity contest, but even real fans can't give credit that one should have for winning a golden ball. I have a feeling that there's going to be dislike towards messi this year because of that...
