Good to see Chefik Simo back in action. He was a hell of a player at furman in 2002. Would have probably been pro by now if not for the injury. Good luck Chefik!

Can't wait to see Chefik back on the field again at the Graveyard....of all places. One of the best combinations of athleticism and soccer "smarts" I have ever seen in a young player. Simply dominating. There are many in SC who see him as an inspiration. Best wishes.

Sounds like Gelnovatch is doing a lot of experimenting with moving players around. His experiment with Paul Johnson last year sounds like a failure. Ian Holder is the latest experiment of moving a forward to the back.

Of note is the remainders of the studs from recruiting class 2002.....
Hunter Freeman: now experimenting with him in the midfield; he wasn't so bad in the back
Paul Johnson: now moving back to forward position, but hardly mentioned as one who will make a difference
Joe Vide: will be in the "mix" for a midfield spot

Although one year older, this team looks like it will continue to rely on relatively young talent to make a difference.

The Blue-Orange game was played on Saturday with the Orange beating the Blue 3:1. There was good play by the new freshmen. They showed good quickness and are creative. Simo played back in defense, and did a good job considering the change in position and past injuries. Ryan Best (keeper) has moved on to play football at UVA, leaving Ryan Burke with the starting nod. Johnson is back up front at forward. Oliver was typically strong in the back. Freeman played solid defense as well. Hall and Vide showed good midfield toughness and creativity. Some freshman will make an impact this year. Friendly this week against USC in Columbia.

The fine print buried at the end of the game recap says Ryan Best quit to play football at UVa.! I just read the Preview article you posted last week where GG said Best was the best athlete on the squad and clearly intimated that he was a good bet to win the starting position back. Something is amiss here. Anyone know the story here? I just looked at the Cavs football roster and he's not listed.

I can't tell too much from the scanty game recaps but it sure looks like we have a bevy of strong to outstanding teams in the ACC this year. Apparently the youngsters really played well for Clemson -- so Trevor said. The freshmen got almost all the ink at Duke. Can't tell anything about the Carolina newcomers yet -- except none of them scored.

I read this somewhere, but don't know if its true.. are we bringing back the entire starting 11 from last year???

If so, then I think we should be in pretty good shape, as the team really gelled in the late year, with the acc title and the decent run (although kind of a flop) in the tourney

I'm thinking it should be a solid year
