Ya because Robben could just hop over that or something? He's a goddam cheat and were already flopping all over the penalty area during the 2nd half, please don't pretend there's any justice here.

The only way we'd meet Brazil is in the final. If things were to play out as expected we'd play Messi and company in the semifinals.

You know the way to can recognise people who rarely watch football? Because they say 'flop' instead of 'dive'

Me as well I thought a group stage exit or a R16 exit would happen with this rather average dutch team I'm glad.

you are one of the few that understand it imo.
climate + inexperienced defense + world class counterattackers = 5-3-2. Has nothing to do wit Mexico being better. After the 1-0 Mexico was pushed back with 4-3-3 and even 3-3-4. Herrera made this choice of the Dutch coach even easier by replacing his attacking power (dos Santos) for a more defensive one. That's just stupid in this situation.

This may have been "reported," but I lived 5km from the Rose Bowl and the temperature at my house, somewhat shaded, prior to the Argentina v. Romania WC94 match was 38C. The reports were it was 43C on the field.

not true. one of the three was a dive, the other 2 (first half counter and penalty) weren't (according to Robben on national television).

We'll see. We still have Colombia / Brasil and Argentina standing - and it's looking like Costa Rica will be there too. Hopefully the USA will beat Belgium.

Edit: Hm... maybe not Costa Rica, LOL (Greece has just equalized)

I agree. Bad coaching was the reason Mexico lost.

    ...that and Robben's dive.

Since when is the Rose Bowl located in Brazil? It's in California, mate. The poster is talking about WC 1994.

I agree. Bad refereeing happens all the time, but that doesn't stop greatness. Mexico's coach today paid for being a coward. He betrayed everything Mexico had done in this W.C.

Holland would have won anyway after that 1-1. After the 0-1 mexico were played off the pitch to be honest. Can't probably say things like this without being called an arrogant Dutchman or so. But this is my opinion.

My summary is more like this:
    - Dutch leaned back to keep their energylevels high, and wanted to sting in fast attacks with Robben and Van Persie, just like other matches at this WC. Our defense looked shaky at times at playing this tactics (this shakyness was the main reason for playing 5-3-2 instead of 4-3-3 anyway). Because of this it looked like Mexico were incredibly strong, but you have to consider they were given the possibility to attack, just like the Chileans. The Dutch counterstrategy also didn't work out in the attacks, due to Mexico's tight organization at the back. This resulted in a 0-0 at half time, where Mexico looked the better of the two: they created some chances, the Dutch didn't.

    - After the early 0-1 in the 2nd half the Dutch couldn't do anything else than attack. It resulted in a 4-3-3 tactic, a system which is programmed in every Dutch players' mind. With our inexperienced defense it is risky to play this system for 90 minutes. Holland had to, but were also helped by Herrera who took away some of these risks for Holland by replacing Dos Santos for a more defensive player. This gave the Dutch a free ride to do what they do best: attack. Holland created chances and finally won. Penalty was controversial, but 1.Holland would have killed it anyway 2. it was justified by counting the sum of tackles of Mexico in the penalty area

Whilst it's apparant Robben accentuated his fall with some theatrics, it was still a foul and probably a bit of compensation for the non-given penalty in the 44th minute. There are very few teams that are devoid of any theatrics.

By what logic do Mexicans actually claim Mexico would've won it if the penalty hadn't been given? They were under constant pressure from the 55th minute onwards. As soon as the equalizer came, the Dutch wouldn't let go.

Anyway some string of supporters show their true colors. Sad really.

Well, you must be the specialist supporting Brazil and divo bonito. At least Robben actually got a Mexican foot against his, Fred Hulk Neymar and Marcello can bump into a butterfly mid-air and pretend to have been hit by a train.

What sick conditions to play a soccergame btw, 38 C degrees on the pitch 70% humidity and UV index 10 burning down the neck. Pretty dire pitch to boot.
Nothing against the venues scenerywise, but maybe next time it's a good idea to scratch Fortaleza and Manaus?

Mexico can't feel like they got a fair shake in that game. Robben lives to dive, as was evident all throughout that contest.

It sucks that Mexico, who pretty much bossed the game, got hard-done by such a thing. Mexico created better chances, controlled the field, and reduced the Dutch to playing counter-attack ball.

I think that we'll see more and more of Euro teams playing counter attack ball to combat the heat and to make up for their inability to match the fitness of teams from more challenging climates.

It's kind of funny to see them struggle with what we see North, Central, and South American teams deal with on the regular.
