I am watching the Mexico match on tv and Brazil on espn3 on computer and there is a 90 second or so delay on the computer. The goal was announced on tv and i waited over a minute to see it on espn3. Just nitpicking.
She's been identified every single time. It's not that you weren't watching, it's that you chose not to notice.
Yea, I ended up pausing my TV for about 90 seconds to get the times synced up so that my computer and TV were in line. Also, trying to avoid a result for a game in the same group...won't it kind of be obvious in most cases what's happened in the other game by player reactions/emotions at the final whistle? I guess you could do it in an order where it could make sense, but the announcers are constantly bringing it up as well. As far as commentators and guests go, Ballack, Gilberto - They make me feel uncomfortable with their lack of command of the language. Lalas - I like his thoughts on USA for the most part, but he is really annoying when you disagree with his point. Sometimes it feels like he'll pick a side because he thinks he's smart enough to argue it. I had to turn him off when he was saying Rooney was the only world class England player. Ley, Tirico - Phenomenal. Events feel bigger when they are in studio. Darke, Champion, Macca - As advertised. Darke had that major gaffe in the Uruguay game while the player was knocked out, but I'll give him a pass. Keller - I don't get it. He just seems like he lacks intelligence? I could've told you that from his appearances on ESPNFC, but ESPN sent him down to Brazil and he seems to be doing a game every day. Palomo/Moreno - The rising stars of the tournament for me. I want more of them. Moreno seems too smart for television. Wouldn't be surprised to see him scooped up in management somehow. Martinez, Solari, van Nistelrooy - love all of them. Healey/Mann - Nothing bad or great to say about them. One of them had a great call on one game, but I don't remember which it was. Sorry to bore y'all.
I don't think this is an ESPN thing. I've experienced other delays on the internet when comparing the same source with other formats.
Good job on the discussion about Suarez's OM NOM NOM there. Doesn't sensationalize it, but does a good job in discussing and condemning it.
Just now, Voiceover: "...here's your host, Lynsey Hipgrave." Hipgrave: "...joining me, Lynsey Hipgrave, Alexi Lalas and Michael Ballack."
bill hofheimer @bhofheimer_espn - June 23 - Really good behind the scenes story on our ESPN #WorldCup studios here in Rio (via @nickfirchau). http://www.mlssoccer.com/worldcup/2...an-ballack-martinez-tirico-ley-van-nistelrooy
ESPN SportScience even getting on the act, talking about the speed and velocity of CR7's assist the other day. They said that if someone was 0.2 seconds off, the play wouldn't have worked and talking about how the goal scorer ran approximately 25 MPH to get past the defender. They also said Tim Howard had essentially no chance at saving it and compared his reaction time to a batter trying to hit a 120MPH fastball in terms of reaction time.
TJNash beat me to the punch earlier, but I would've asked Lynne, "are you Schapes in disguise?". BTW, for the JPN-COL match, the audio is off about 3-4 seconds on ESPN. I've seen AwfulAnnouncing mention it on twitter. A lot of responses confirmed that a lot of people are noticing it. This might be the first problem I've seen from ESPN for this World Cup.
And, of course, as soon as I finished typing that, the audio problem was fixed. It's good to see that they recognized the problem and fixed it, eventually. It sure took quite a while to get it fixed.
Was it just the commentary? I primarily watch on univision and didn't initially notice anything when I checked based on the complaints of others. The stadium audio appeared to be fine.
why in the world are people saying Michael Ballack's English is not good? he's very fluent and expresses himself very well. I'd say out of all the foreign commentators he also talks the most. He has no problem talking, talks without pause, with numerous complete and grammatically correct sentences in a row. Off script and about other things than even football. I'm shocked. Gilberto Silva - yeah, that's a bit uncomfortable. now who's that blonde English chick who takes the place of Tirico and Ley?
Agree with your view on Ballack. Quite like him, but he should have taken that jacket off in the lounge!
Gerrard is an absolute monster and is coming off the back of his best season in the last 5. I'd hate to get into semantics about how many players can be world class, but Rooney barely being there for ya means Sturridge would have to be on that level as well. The statistical revolution of the sport is underway and his non-pen goals per 90 while up top are at all-time levels. I ended up feeling bad about my Keller comments. I think he is an underwhelming talk show guest, but had a good analyst performance yesterday.
Did you actually watch Gerrard play in this World Cup? I know Roy's tactics did him no favors, but he was dreadful. He was placed in a perfect position in last season's Liverpool set-up, but separated from that monster front line he is very old and ordinary. And his legs are shot. I'd wager that very few see Stevie G. as world class today.
Chalk me up as someone who never got the appeal of Men In Blazers. Seems like they go out of their way to pander to American soccer fans.
^Agree - their act seems forced and not particularly funny. John Oliver is much better at that type of satire.
I've always enjoyed Healey's work, Mann is pretty much new to me and seemed quite good. There hasn't been much said here about Jon Champion. My main impression is he has way too much of the sort of pomposity that matches stereotypes of English learned scholars, you almost imagine he's could be wearing a powdered wig. On the other hand I'll give him a big pass for pointing out on US Television that Eduardo Galleano is in most of the world recognized as the Poet Laureate of Futbol. And what he said about Che Guevara. Of course this guarantees Fox won't enlist him for the next world cup, they are more likely to tap Bill O'Reilly as host to keep things "fair and balanced".
Champion had the best line of the tournament - "the gift that keeps on giving" - but yes he does come across a little snarky at times
I just love it when sportscenter anchors have NO clue how to pronounce players' names when they get to wc highlights. This is kind of just funny compared to gujo doing the same thing when it's just sad.
