never mind i figured it out... it's *1052# ... my balance says R$ 1.10, what does that mean as far as remaining data goes?

That's not data, that's how much credit you have. If you're using Claro Visitors, it means nothing. Otherwise, it's one day worth of data connection.

The answer is on the same page you posted on a few posts back answered by @lucasc! Call *1052 and follow the prompts.

I reply "2" for English, then reply "5" for "Data Balance" and it tells me how much I used of my 300 MB. I'm at 200MB after 10 days with about 2 weeks to go...I need to slow down or I'm eventually going to need to figure out how to top off the data balance. Not even sure it's possible with this Visitors Plan.

got it sorted -- went back to the Claro and a guy there figured it out with completely different APN settings than the ones I had found and tried online.

    For Claro
How do change the menu language to English?
I've tried just about ever number and can't seem to find it.

    Mine goes straight to Portuguese.
I'll go by one of the Claro stores and try to figure it out.
    Thanks

So what is the consensus so far? I'll be in Recife Friday. I have acces to my sprint phone (which I understand is useless) and ATT phone (locked / unlocked don't know). I would like to use whatsapp mainly. I can buy a spare phone if needed but don't have much time to do so...

I am very satisfied with my Claro Visitors Plan. The 300MB limit is the only thing that sucks. I am almost out after 13 days here, so today I am going to the Claro store to ask about a top off. Worst case, I plunk down another R$60 for a Rio SIM.

Anyone having issues accessing Facebook on their Claro sim? I just got one yesterday and the internet works fine except for Facebook. It won't load at all. Have tried the app and via chrome but no luck.

My wife has been using the facebook quite a bit on our claro plan with mixed results. Sometimes it's great and other times it's slower than dirt. I imagine it has something to do with data throtling since facebook isn't supposed to count against the 300 mb of data. Always works well over WiFi.

same situation I get. FB pretty much doesn't work on cellular data, works fine on WiFi.

For claro you can get a recarga at many places (check newspaper stands). They just need your number. To get an additional 300mb you need at least 11.90. Then text PACOTE to 767. Follow the instructions.

Claro brazilian native clients navigates through Facebook free of charges. Maybe some technical problem is occurring with the visitors plan...

I think it's the kind of thing they'll deny if you ask just to exempt themselves from responsibility if it doesn't work.

Do you happen to know what the settings were? My buddy has a new Claro sim and it's working fine for data and phone calls, but we can't seem to get any SMS through. Looking online there are various configs we've tried but none seem to do the trick.

    TIA!

I'm back from Brazil already but found it extremely difficult to figure out the Sim card thing. In the end, I had 2 Sim cards but went the duration of the trip without a local cell number. When I went into Claro and TIM asking for help, the employees were pushing the visitors packages and were unwilling to hook me up with the local rates.

Completely opposite for me here in Manaus. Landed a couple hours ago and I'm online already. Claro BR 3G. Local plan. Recharge for an amount and enjoy. Will check previous posts to see how to check balance, usage etc.

I asked a couple of news stands and they didn't know what I was talking about. Was walking on random streets and found a Claro shop. They didn't know what the visitors plan was in spite of me showing the ad on their website. They gave me the local pay as you go SIM card.

Communication was difficult since I don't speak Portuguese and them English. Used google translate back and forth and it was all fine.
