Yep, me too. Looks like it is not a quick ride.

From everything I've seen, nothing in Brazil is quick.

I love Brazil so much. But after living there for two years, this is sadly true most of the time. haha. At least they know how to party! :)

Just checking through some old pix of Recife and I came across a very good restaurant in the heart of the colonial city of Olinda just outside Recife. Definitely want to check out Olinda, very quaint, good shopping for local artesanias. Got a couple of hammocks there that I make very good use of. :)

Oficina do Sabor, Rua Amparo 335. I actually met Juninho Pernambucano filming an extended interview there. Apparently it's a cultural institution for the region. IIRC it's famous for its regional food. I'm a foodie, and I dug the food there.

Thanks for this link. I used Google Translate to get me to the below screen to purchase a parking ticket as we are driving from Chicken Port, and hoping someone can help me with some of the fields on the below form:

    1. What is CPF?
    2. Is "Local de Troca do Ticket" where I pick up the ticket? I wonder if I need to do it prior to the day of the game. Any sense which one is in Boa Viagem and if I could pick this ticket up on Saturday, June 14/

    Help is appreciated!

Looks like CPF is the Brasillian SSN -- does this mean that only locals can get these parking tix?

My brother has lived in Brazil for almost 20 years. I have a Brazilian sister-n-law, and a Brazilian niece and nephew. Off and on, I've been here over a year. We're immersed in their culture and are privileged to have genuine discussions with average, everyday Brazilians. Needless to say, when they announced the cup being here...we've been waiting ever since. Luckily, the lottery got us tix to Italy/Uruguay and US/Germany. I assume we're going to be running into plenty of Americans. I just want to share something with everyone. Apparently, Americans are the largest group coming to Brazil and they know that here. My Brazilian friends aren't ignorant to the fact that soccer is not the number one sport in the US, nor do we produce the most talent. They are amazed at how our culture is RICH with national pride, and how admirable it is to pack up and come to the mecca of the soccer world to support our national team, even when most critics feel we won't make it out of the the group. I just helped teach an English class at my brother's school. 10-year olds.
I took a poll on who they thought will be champions. 5 said US, 5 said Brazil!! Just tells you how much we influence children around the world. Our flag represents something special to all. I can't wait till the games begin tomorrow. For the record, I'm a big fan of Donovan, but everyone needs to let it go and support our coach and our team to the fullest. For the pessimists out there, what if, just what if they win it all? Will you call for Klinsman's head after that? If JK were an amateur with empty resume, I'd join your argument. But for the love of God, if there's someone to put your faith in, would it not be him?? We weren't at the training practices, we weren't inside closed door meetings between the two, etc.
Let's go United States!!! Hope to meet some fellow Americans at the game!

I will be at Castelinho Hotel, looks like a $hit hole but it's something. I forgot to read some of the fine print details on my confirmation email and apparently it is an "adult only" hotel....fack! I read a review on google that prostitution surrounds that area. This can either turn out good or bad lmao, don't judge me. Oh and just confirmed 115 is a US PMA section to :)

Jesus dude.... got me all crying and stuff. Damn you.

We are all looking forward to the trip and experience, thanks for giving us some perspective. This means just as much to us US traveling fans as it does for other countries. We just need to match that passion with a great product on the field.

Went to the IC-Japan last night and took the metro (south line one stop closer from the airport heading to Recife).

Cost $7.50 reals and they gave me a wristband.

I left 3.5 hours before match time (freaking 10pm) and saw some fans who were getting off in Recife to watch the first half of the England-Italy match...so I joined them.

I got back on the train at halftime and it took 1 hour 20 min to go 13 stops...there were announcements as the train kept getting held up...not sure why. Then a 10 minute bus ride, followed by a 15 min walk...kinda crazy, but I made it into the stadium 15 minutes before kick off time.

So actually trasport time was 2 hours...took 1.5 hours on the way home....but at least there should be taxis in the afternoon for the Germany match as opposed to 1:30am and pouring rain last night.

I am sure the group that reads this would want to be at the stadium at least 1-1.5 hours prior, so plan accordingly.

ps. They also ran out of food at the stadium prior to kickoff (same thing happened at the Stick for the Azerbaijan match), but plenty of Bud and Coke.

Anybody with any idea where the IS team will be staying in Recife and when they'll arrive? Would be cool to see them at the airport or hotel on their arrival.
