Well, with todays loss...CIV's chances just took a shot. Interesting to see what'll happen.

  2. It would be a disgrace to the sport if Greece qualifies, but Japan isn't that good either. So, go CIV!

CIV still control their destiny. But they don't match up well against Greece, that's for sure....

I think CIV beats Greece rather easily. Greece are just awful and they're going to have to finally come out of their shell and go for the win.

CIV had an excellent Colombia team on the ropes today. They could have easily tied them. I think they go through and I give them a very good chance against Italy or Uruguay in the 2nd round.

CIV for me is a favorite to go through in this group.

Even a draw with Greece is enough.

I think Ivory Coast has played pretty well and deserve to go thru.
The type of soccer that Greece plays is pretty disgraceful and setting the game back about 20 years, CIV will knock them off.

I agree to a certain extent.
I want to see a team that attacks get into the next round. So Ivory Coast will be the team I root for.
But I am not so certain they can beat Greece. Greece can sneak in by scoring some cheap goal and playing organized defense the rest of the way. They are not going to be beaten in the air like Japan was so easily. They are also not going to fall for those Gervinho moves as Colombia did when they fell asleep.

I hope to god that Greece don't go thru, that is a horrible style that they play.

Greece played the whole second half with 10 men and they were still able to create chances. I don't think they are as bad as you are making them out to be

If they draw with Greece, and Japan beats Colombia (whom already has secured the top of the group, so might play mostly with substitute players) by 2 goals, Japan would have the same points and better GD than CIV and it would be them who go through instead.

Colombia's bench is almost as good as the starters though. :D

Nigeria somehow going to make it, despite being a trite side in the most boring-ass group.

Africa back from the brink. Still very much in contention for 2-4 spots depending on how tomorrows games play out.

Africa alive and kicking. Work isn't over. They all need to concentrate.

Nigeria has all the odds now. They can do with a point and/or Iran dropping any points.

    Question though ...

What happens if Nigeria loses 1-0 and Iran wins 1-0. They're both on 4 points, both even on goal differential, both even on number of goals scored and both even on head to head.

Do they flip a coin? I'd love to see that

FIFA regukations have the drawing of lots as the tie breaker in the above circumstance.

Thankfully this almost never happens but they really should organise a penalty shootout to decide things.

Logistic nightmare and a race against the clock, in an event where travel plans and venues have been decided months in advance. Simply not possible.

True but both teams will know where they play their knockout game and they would have to travel to the same town to draw the lots. I would think that both teams would prefer to decide this on penalties than to pure chance.

What will actually be will be, but what I would like instead is to see Ghana, CIV, and maybe Algeria advance among the CAF teams. Cameroon, arguably the worst team in the tournament, is already eliminated and while Nigeria have a very good chance to advance, I just don't find them all that meritorious. Never mind they are in Iran's group and I would prefer Iran advance instead.
