Barthez wants to start a goal keeping academy. Dear lord.

Just searched on YouTube for what you're talking about...and you're right -- ouch. I guess that hurt his chances of wearing the national shirt as a starter in the near future...too bad, because Frey is excellent.

I think the issue with Frey is also one of relative anonymity in France. Let's face it, very few in France follow the Italian Serie A enough to watch highlights of teams other than the Milans and Juve, they would very rarely watch UEFA Cup action, especially after the French teams got knocked out. So consequently, Sébastien is somewhat unknown domestically, even if I would say on a world scale, many know about him. It's too bad, as I've always been a big supporter of his ability as a keeper, as I think it'll be he and Lloris who will compete in years ahead for the No. 1 jersey.

Still does ! Quite well apparently...Races a Ferrari 458 in the French GT championship among pro drivers of international stature like Ortelli or even Loeb from time to time. Well, there is also a certain son of a celebrity.

Heh I also see Sebastian Frey mentioned in this thread. Theres a guy no French fans even talk about anymore. Not on the National team radar and fell completely off the map.

Considering 5 years is almost an entire career for the average player, its to be expected that he fell completely off the map.

not entirely false as reasoning, but he's still only 32 and an everyday starter for genova.

and the relevance of SB333's remark is that seb (he was once well-known enough to be referred to so simply) didn't just gradually wander into the woods. he went over niagara falls w/o a barrel. and not one tear has been shed thereover.

I was talking about Barthez mostly. Either way, Frey was a big wheel in the 2000's but not so much now as you never hear about him as when he was with Inter, Parma and then Fiorentina.

Hé hé ! See that ? I like to recycle

Wow ! For some perverse reasons, I'd like to see that. We would be graced with decades of 2003 style French bashing afterwards. In a way, since there's no such as bad publicity, Ray could help soccer be even more of a household thing in the US after becoming famous in all comedy shows for driving the whole nation mad. After all, there's no bigger stage for him !
