The line and shading is nice, but it's still not 100% certain given that the camera isn't directly on the same line. It's possible given his body position that the butt of the Mexican directly in front of the goal COULD extend beyond the Cameroonian just inside the lower box line, who is standing directly upright. I'm not saying that it is likely, but it is POSSIBLE that the AR saw it that way, in which case the Mexican WAS in an offside position. Almost willing to give the benefit of the doubt in that case. 2nd goal was a goal, however - only excuse was a mistaken belief that a Mexican deflected it, which from the replays clearly didn't happen.
I think that the path it was taking barely had a influence where as the Mexican player just happened to be offside; I barely saw the Cameroon player touching it.
I would add the russian ref in 06 portugal-netherlands game. but that's if you consider russia part of europe lol
I have no problem with Argentinian refs and Brazilian ones (usually). When you have a Uruguayan one however...
sep Blatter said this week that the coaches need to get 2 chances per half to challenge the referees for incidents that seem unfair for them and they need to use the replay to show them , i think they need to implement this early before its too late and the referees screw everything.
Should be 1-0 to Mexico right now. No way that was offside. That being said Cameroon has out played Mexico in large stretches of this match so far. Should be a really interesting 2nd half. BTW the football looks to be of a lower quality than the game yesterday to me.
I agree on one thing: He was onside. But - yes, you can be offside on a corner. Like on any type of freekick. The offside rule doesn't apply to throw ins.
Are you serious? the 2 mexican goals were ok not only one and Mexico was the best team on the pitch by a huge margin
The problem is that he wasn't offside on the corner. If you look at the keeper who you have to align the player to, since there was a player on the post, the Mexican player isn't in front of him. So even if the ball wasn't deflected, it wouldn't of been an offside.
Well first two games of this cup with major blown calls. Instant replay challenges need to be implemented.
Both goals were good. However, I will say that the first one was easier for the lineman to miss. Santos was away as soon as the pass left the foot...if the linesman was slightly too late (which obviously we should expect better at this level) then I can see how he got the decision wrong. The second goal was blatantly off a yellow shirted head. If the linesman didn't see it from that distance the ref needs to be over ruling the decision.
Mexico has been the better team by a pretty wide margin. Should be 2-0 up if not for the bad offside calls.
How? The ball is on the endline to start. You have to be even with the ball, unless you are off the field before the kick which is a different issue.
I'm not commenting on this specific situation (i repeat: yes, he was onside). I'm just straightening out in general, because someone made a wrong claim about the general LOTG: you can be offside on a corner.
