probably has something to do with internet rights - have past radio games been streamed as well? This was my first time listening to 106.7 and I can't stream anything but my used beer
I listen to 106.7 pretty regularly, and the TuneIn app always streams whatever is on the FM feed. I'm not sure if any previous games were streamed, though.
Typically, DisCo asleep at the switch: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/06/12/mls-disciplinary-committee-suspends-colorado-rapids-dillon-serna-hands-out-fines Edit: In retrospect, asking them to make that decision overnight was even more unrealistic than the very basic competence I habitually and foolishly expect. Nothing to see here...
Teams are allowed to make the decision about streaming. Like the NHL, there are no league blackout rules for radio. If there was ever an intentional blackout, that would be a decision made by DC United. I put this with the ineptitude of 106.7 The Fan.
I wonder if the delay is caused by having the announcing team in a local studio calling the game from a feed out of Canada.
Two thumbs up for Tino's improved broadcasting performance. I actually don't think I am exaggerating when I say that he is my favorite color commentator, period. He's still rough, to be sure, but I think he is legitimately insightful, his anecdotes are actually funny or charming, and he rarely does that "strong opinion on that call because I'm the opinion guy" thing that I find so irritating. I'm amazed that I never want to smack him because I'm pretty much a tool and it's a pretty solid guarantee that, during a game, a broadcaster will say something that I believe deserves a punch in the head. I'm less enthused that my better half starts drooling when he appears on the halftime report, but I'd still rather have him than anyone I hear on MLS Live. Oh, and that game was fun. Not the best all-around performance ever, and it was a little worrying just how much drop off in possession there was after Silva and Espy were subbed off, but it was more than good enough and I think the team responded pretty well to a couple of sucker punches that could have sucked the life out of the team. P.S. Perry Kitchen is a very talented defender. No one is trying to make him a box-to-box anymore as far as I know, but watching him last night reminded me just how many flaws he can cover if you let him concentrate on defense.
I'm also a big Santino fan, I think he does an excellent job. He'll point out some things I'm not paying attention to, like last night when he was talking about how Rolfe was really cutting off Montreal's attack and covering a lot of ground. I watched him a little closer and it was noticeable.
Yes, Tino is getting better (his first appearance was awful), and he notices off-the-ball action that is very insightful. Which segues into my next point: I haven't seen better off-the-ball runs this year. These runs had the effect of spreading out the defenders, leaving channels for attacks to exploit. Very impressive, IMO.
DeLeon made a great run from a long way to get in position for that second goal, and that was a huge goal right after they took the lead. To get from his spot on the wing all the way to the near post was great, you can really see it in the highlight video.
Maybe he is finally starting to get it, after a two-year hiatus. He is looking more fit, physically, and he is playing better, mentally. I hope he keeps on, because we really need for him to step his game up in the absence of Chris Pontius.
Silva had a hat trick. I have been waiting for him to have a good game and he had a great game. His second goal was world class. I thought when we got Rolfe, he was going to be another Townsend. I am glad I was wrong on that. Doyle looks like Townsend but slower.
Not a bad deal to get a first-half hat-trick in the first multi-goal game of your career (if one is to believe the announcers, but one of you stat-geeks will correct me if it's wrong). Weird, because I really did not think he had a great game. Sure pays to be in the right places at the right times. How do we get EJ to fit in better with the style we seem to be developing whenever he's out of the line-up?
Just nice to see this result in post-light of the Columbus match. And I'll admit, given their overall results to this point in the season, I was a lot more worried about our offense coming from someone other than just Espindola, than the defense being the culprit in letting this team down. I mean, shutouts are nice, but at the end of the year if playoffs are your goal, you better net some goals and 3 point games if you want to be there in the thick of things. Nearly every offensive click you wanted to see following that match- from creativity and better midfield play to execution to substitutions, to better finishing overall-including how to take a PK- all steps forward taken vs. Montreal in nearly every offensive category. And Ben's post-match quotes fit this team like a glove. It's nice to be in first, but the goal is to continue improving and stay there. Amen to that. Kudos, United- back where we belong. Vamos United! Vamanos!
Look at the standings. DCU is #2 in the Supporters' Shield behind Seattle. DCU has scored as many goals as any team in the Eastern Conference. Only DCU and SKC have non-negative road goal differentials. This team has not snuck into first place, statistically, it fully belongs there. Kudos to Ben and the assistants because they have figured something out correctly. And, kudos to Kasper (omigod I can't really be saying that) for picking up Espy, Boswell, Franklin, Parke and Rolfe and drafting Birnbaum. Even the blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
Which makes the next game vs. Seattle that much more intriguing. That's all of a sudden a key game in the Supporter's Shield race ... Who would of guessed that in pre season?
1) If I could pick two players to score and gain some confidence going into the break it would be Nick and Silva. 2) An awful lot of off the ball movement. Is Montreal that slow or is this something I should start getting used to from us? 3) There's something to be said in MLS for the 11 solid players strategy. Don't make mistakes. Have multiple players who can score spread across the frontline and midfield. Defend and score on set pieces. Have a hard working but somewhat talented DM who controls the center. It'd be nice to have our DP carry us once in awhile, but if Pontius comes back or Silva and DeLeon can be more consistent or we bring in one more good player it will be hard for MLS teams to figure out how to stop us. 4) Olsen is still an enigma to me, but I have to say his players have consistently put forth effort no matter what the situation. If anyone can turn EJ into a sufferable teammate it might be him.
