Jorge Ramos & BandaVerified account@ESPN_JorgeRamos ALERTA: #FIFA llamo a #USA para que tenga listo un comite organizador para el 2022. No habria #Mundial en #Qatar. Se decide en Sept u Oct Mods, if this should be somewhere else, feel free to move it or merge with a thread that already exists
You beat me to it. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mrloganrhoades/fifa-tells-us-to-be-ready-if-qatar-gets-stripped-of-2022-wor
I ignore all transfer rumors, injury rumors, and the like when it comes to soccer. However, this gave me a semi. I hope it is true
If FIFA were smart, they'd do this. Then again, if FIFA were smart they wouldn't have blatant corruption
The US doesn't deserve to be handed the world cup. Australia is in the AFC and deserves it because it never had it before. Obviously, I wold prefer it in the US, but to be objective, Aus.
"Update - June. 12, 9:13 p.m., ET: Ramos has since deleted the original tweet and U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati has denied the report, according to Sam Borden of The New York Times."
In the immortal words of Will Munny, "deserve's got nothing to do with it." Actually I find it odd they would hand it to the us anytime soon. The us is maybe the only place that could put together a dozen or so enormous venues for a World Cup in just a few months time, but we are still several years out.
I am of firm belief that you don't just hand the cup to a country.. a revote is the sanest and fairest way to approach the matter.
We could host the 2022 WC tomorrow without having to bankrupt our country by building new stadia that is going to be used for 4 games. It's a no brainer that the US should be get the 2022 WC, but this FIFA should you know what the deal is - pay to play.
I have seen you write this in multiple threads, and it is nonsense. AFC got the WC in 2002. Why should Australia get the Cup due to their presence in AFC when their confederation has had a cup more recently than Concacaf? That logic makes little sense. Add in the fact that it is their confederation who cheated to get it, and Im befuddled as to why it is fair or objective for the confederation itself to be rewarded. The US wins without the cheating. It should get the Cup. You're overthinking this.
I also think a US World Cup would make so much more money than an Australian one. Australia has like, 2.5 cities. There's no economy like the US. If you want to get away from the voting execs simply being handed bags of money... If your point is to run a clean World Cup, where you make a shit ton of money for the sport that is, alas, partially above board and taxable and such, the US is the best option.
Which is the same reason why the US and even the UK won't see it anytime soon. Not enough graft available to other countries.
Unless you're competing with other countries where graft is also not easily available. The remaining competitors for the 2022 World Cup are all countries with a strong rule of law.
I heard someone on the radio yesterday say that the US does not want the 22 WC because of the politics involved - that we would be perceived as taking the WC away from a Muslim country. Don't shoot the messenger please - just reporting what was said - he was a guest on The Football Show; but can't remember his name.
I've got a perfect solution then. Announcing your 2022 World Cup venues: Ford Field, Detroit Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor Spartan Stadium, East Lansing Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac (yes, it is still standing, I was surprised too) Comerica Park, Detroit Kelly Shorts Stadium, Mount Pleasant Rynearson Stadium, Ypsilanti Waldo Stadium, Kalamazoo The final three will need to be expanded by 8-10k seats each, but given 8 years' notice this should be very doable. (And yes, this means a mid-sized US state would make a far more suitable WC host than fxcking Qatar)
This could be fun. First Energy Stadium, Cleveland Crew Stadium, Columbus Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinatti The Glass Bowl, Toledo Fawcett Stadium, Canton Progressive Field, Cleveland Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati Peden Stadium, Athens All more realistic than a Qatar bid
I was going more for the Muslim angle, but yeah, there are probably 25 US states that are more worthy to host a World Cup than Qatar is. Hell, northern and southern California could each host one individually.
